Les jeunes annees d'Urbain, fils d'un armateur de La Ciotat et d'une mere mulatre nee esclave, sont ballottees entre Cayenne et Marseille. Des l'ete 1831, les elans republicains nes de la Revolution de Juillet modelent ses premieres actions politiques. L'annee 1832 est celle de sa conversion au Saint-Simonisme et des emotions de la Retraite de Menilmontant. Apres l'interdiction de l'association et l'arrestation de ses chefs, ce sont les missions proletaires a Lyon et dans le Midi puis, en 1833, le depart pour l'Orient. Un voyage exotique fertile en peripeties pittoresques et en sensations nouvelles, mais aussi riche de lecons politiques qui depassent l'effritement du reve religieux et l'echec des projets du canal de Suez et du barrage du Nil. A l'oppose des politiques de conquete et de colonisation de l'epoque, c'est une periode inedite de cooperation volontaire en Orient. La conversion d'Urbain a l'Islam est un element original dans la Famille saint-simonienne. Cette experience aura une importance capitale dans sa nouvelle vie et une influence reelle, mais contrariee, dans la politique francaise.

The seller is one of the best there is - high quality books, reasonable prices, securely packaged.
I do, however, recommend some changes to their shipping - they show a shipper (SortHub) on eBay, but the tracking # they email is for a different carrier. It’s difficult to know where my purchase is.
This time, it was delivered a week late. In the grand scheme of things not a big deal. But it shouldn’t be this difficult to accurately track my purchase.
