Just got this used in the original box with the Remote and all the original paperwork and pulled the old Blu-ray that was NOT Wi-Fi capable and plugged this one in and went through the setup and hooked up to Wi-Fi without a hitch and also to Amazon Videos without a hiccup! This model is seemingly very highly valued by its' owners and so far it works great!

Well made unit but tired compared to more recent models. There are several apps that are no longer supported on this device - YouTube being one of them. The display even on its brightest setting is dim and cannot be seen at distance except in the darkest if rooms. The image quality for HD is perfect. There are plenty of connector and format options. Well designed remote and typical Sony software interface which are both easy to use. The only difficult setup was adding the player to a network to be able to view pictures and video stored on a PC or server.

I was going to get a Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray disc player this past winter since I liked its monolithic and sophisticated design and it was conveniently priced, but when I looked at the BDP-S790 on Sony's website, I couldn't help but notice it supports SBM-V and the S590 doesn't. So I ultimately decided to get this one. If you don't know what SBM-V is, let me explain it to you: it is an exclusive Sony video-processing feature(also supported by their HX and XBR series televisions that utilize the X-Reality PRO engine, as well as any Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Blu-ray disc titles that were released in 2010 or after)that purifies the video signal bit by bit, resulting in a smoother pixel and color gradation and thus a more accurately-mapped picture--in short, Super Bit Mapping for Video. This feature takes 1080p HD content to the next level. So if you have one of the above mentioned Sony TVs, this is just the right Blu-ray disc player for you. But as stated above, SBM-V is a Sony exclusive--although the network features are basically the same as utilized on Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Vizio, and Sharp's 3D internet-enabled Blu-ray players, you won't get the same advanced video-processing picture this one has... unless one of the above mentioned has a counterpart to SBM-V. Though the network features are pretty much also the same as Sony's Smart TVs have, as such I would recommend only using the Internet on whichever device you find is faster - the TV or the player. Another thing I like about this Blu-ray disc player is not only does it allow you to adjust the 3D effect to your liking, but it is also able to convert a 2D signal into 3D. And what I'm particularly proud of is that its rear panel contains 2 HDMI ports, one for video and the other for audio, which will certainly come in handy if you have one of Sony's Blu-ray home theater sets that just include the 6 speakers and the AV receiver that's about the size of most of their earlier Blu-ray players. In a nutshell, this is not only an awesome accessory, but a hot bargain--that is, if you can get it for $200 or less.Read full review
I owned the same player and wanted another. It is far ahead of others. I wish it was not limited to regions. I would buy another. It is fast loading and has a fantastic pic. quality. Wish that every now and then it wouldn't freeze.

Excellent bluray player. It's like the early PS3's with touch controls. Duel hdmi is great with Mitsubishi with a separate 3D converter box. 1 hdmi to a hdmi input. The other hdmi to converter box. Allows you to turn off converter box for non 3D movies.

$178 gets you a lot of hardware here: dual HDMI outs (I don't know of another player in this price range with this); analog audio outs (yes they come in handy still); front display that shows time; WiFi; fast loading mechanism that plays everything, I mean everything: SACD, Blu-ray, VCD, DVD, CD-R, DVD-R, MP3, MP4, AVCHD. USB. The player has been very reliable for me (you must update to latest firmware!) Nice remote.
Received in a timely manner. Worked perfectly right out of the box. I don't usually use it to play DVD's or Blu Ray, but got it primarily for wireless access to Netflix, etc. Even though it is located in a large, heavily-occupied entertainment unit far away from our router in the attic, connection is strong and consistent. Everything I had hoped for.
I got it for the 3D projector. Love it.
