About this product

Product Information

The Russian Concubine dazzled readers. Now, its gifted author delivers another sweeping historical novel. Davinsky Labor Camp, Siberia, 1933: Only two things in this wretched place keep Sofia from giving up hope: the prospect of freedom, and the stories told by her friend and fellow prisoner Anna, of a charmed childhood in Petrograd, and her fervent girlhood love for a passionate revolutionary named Vasily. After a perilous escape, Sofia endures months of desolation and hardship. But, clinging to a promise she made to Anna, she subsists on the belief that someday she will track down Vasily. In a remote village, she's nursed back to health by a Gypsy family, and there she finds more than refuge--she also finds Mikhail Pashin, who, her heart tells her, is Vasily in disguise. He's everything she has ever wanted--but he belongs to Anna. After coming this far, Sofia is tantalizingly close to freedom, family--even a future. All that stands in her way is the secret past that could endanger everything she has come to hold dear!

I ordered 2 books from this seller; this one was exactly as described and in good condition. The other is even better, but covered in other feedback. I would say that this seller's books are in better condition than other online used bookstores for the same price. The books were well wrapped, again better than other online used bookstores. Shipping was free which is always a plus. The books came quickly considering sometimes roads are closed due to high winds here. Very happy with purchase!

  • The Red Scarf

I could not put this book down. It was one of the best written books I have read in a long time.I came by it by accident in a thrift store so said, It sounds like a good book so I bought it. I loved the authors writting so much I ordered her other three books. I would recommend this author to everyone. She did a great job with her history of Russia. Having just returned from Russia myself, I could relate about what she was writting. Altho, the reader does not have to know the history of Russia to enjoy the story. A must read.

  • Another fine novel

I loved "The Russian Concubine," and Ms. Furnivall didn't disappoint with this novel. Interesting characters and compelling story, set in the fascinating transitions and upheaval of the Russian Revolution. In both "The Russian Concubine" and "The Red Scarf," Ms. Furnivall's fine prose captured the feel of the settings and history. She has an ability to weave detail into the story without forcing the reader to wade through pages of tedious description about the environment, etc. The result is that I had a visceral sense of what that era -- and the area -- was like. Combined with interesing plot twists and character development, it was a lovely read.

  • Great read

Kate Furnivall does it again! I always enjoy reading her books.
