About this product
Product Information
In the sardonic spirit of Dungeon Keeper comes Overlord, where being "bad" is not only blindly accepted, it's gleefully encouraged. Overlord is a fantasy action title viewed from a third-person perspective behind your Sauron-inspired character, who is imbued with the dark power to command up to 50 mischievous minions to do his bidding. How they go about their baneful business is largely up to you, as part of the attraction in Overlord is how your actions influence and shape the tongue-in-cheek world around you. Players bent on obliterating towns instead of liberating them, for example, will witness groveling villagers instead of cheering ones.
The overall objective is to defeat the kingdom's seven rival rulers, all while growing in power and stature by learning spells, forging new weapons, and acquiring different items. The imp-like minions possess one of four roles (warrior, mage, assassin, and healer), each offering distinct strengths to help would-be overlords accomplish their goals. As players gain more control of the land, they can improve their alter ego's base of operations: the Dark Tower, home to loyal minions, captured prisoners, and even an alluring mistress to relieve some of the stress that inevitably comes with conquering the world. Online support via Xbox Live is also included for both cooperative and competitive play.

When I first ought this game I was nervous because I thought it might be too short after spending $30 on Stubbs the Zombie for only a few hours of fun. Two hors into overlord and I knew this was the case. The only part of this game that makes it take so long is that there is no map and you always are lost. When you aren't lost though this game rocks. The unique blend of RTS style of commanding your minions mixed with an RPG story line and questing is great. When I first played this game it seemed like a mix between Pikmin, Lord of The Rings(the overlord/Sauron), and Conker (the humor.) The game takes between 15-20 Hours for the average gamer to beat the campaign but unlike most RPG's this game has online play which actually is surprisingly quite good. I have read about several glitches that make you have to restart the game but I haven't encountered any yet so I wont use those against its score the way they have over at IGN. Overall this is a GREAT game and is definitly worth buying if you don't want to spend your money on "The Darkness."Read full review
This game is much better than you have heard.
I am not quite sure why there are so many bland reviews about it floating around on the internet, but they are really quite unjustified given the quality of some the games that get "rave" reviews.
In this game you play as an evil overlord, who commands a group of gremlin-like minions to do his bidding. there is a lot of looting, pillaging, some wench abducting, and various other evil overlord activities to be had.
the game isn't terribly difficult or punishing so pretty much any gamer could pick this one up and enjoy it.
on the whole the "evil" in the game is rather toned down from what i would consider truly nefarious, and is really more heroic than some of the stuff you would see various anti-heroes in other games doing.
the controls in the multi player aspect of the game do seem a tidbit sluggish compared to the single player, but after you get over the initial shock from the difference it is quite fun.
really great game; I would recommend to pretty much anyone who doesn't faint when the word evil is thrown around.
Overlord gets four sacked villages out of five.Read full review
My son loves this game as a break from Gears of War, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4. It reminds us a bit of Munch's Odyssey. Basically you're this evil Overlord running around destroying everything and everyone, controlling your minions to do so. It's quite comical at times. As you complete different missions, more spells and minions become available to you.
Pros: a fun departure from the staple of shooters that the 360 is known for, comic relief
Cons: camera angle issues, repetitive at times, some parents aren't cool with the name and whole "evil overlord" thing
I recommend this title.
2/224/08: The "raising hell" add-on, and other map add-ons are well worth it for this game. They add maps, multiplayer playing options, new survival modes, and many achievements.
Anticipating the game because it very much looked like Fable, one of my favorite XBox games.
Pros: Overlord for the XBox 360 is not only entertaining, but manages to be funny and humorous without being gross or too naughty. You are, of course, the Overlord, brought back to life by your faithful (and I do mean faithful!) minions. These little creatures do it all, collect treasure, make wise cracks, don pumpkins as helmets, sacrifice themselves, and in general cause havoc by your command.
For those that are up on their pop culture there are references and jokes aplenty, right down to a certain Shire we all know and love.
Cons: There is no map, this is a bad thing! It is at best difficult to tell where you're going and where you have been. You're dependent on your minions to reach areas and smite enemies you can not, and with no camera angle control it sometimes makes it difficult to attack with or direct the little guys.
Using the thumb sticks one or the other controls either Overlord or minions. They will smash, attack, and loot wherever you point them. However be weary of where you point them you can kill an entire army in a single push of your thumb. OOPS!
Back tracking and there is a lot of it, is necessary to reach an area not previously available once you have obtained the appropriate minion color to deal with the item or obstacle. This leads to playing an area several times over, which can be tiresome.
All in all this a fantastic game, fun, fresh and full if silly, it is one for the experienced or not so experienced gamer.Read full review
Pros - Game is easy to pick up and play; great art direction and sense of humor (minions are cute, charming, and hilarious at times, as are NPCs); difficulty level not punishing; lampoons Lord of the Rings and other fantasy elements brilliantly.
Cons - Charm and humor begin to wear off after several hours of play time; camera feels as though it is working against you at times; feels quite a bit like Pikmin for Gamecube/Wii in its puzzle-solving elements (maybe that's a good thing?); minions begin to become difficult to control once you have more than 20; upgrades for main character's equipment and his dark tower make little difference in the gameplay.
Overall, this is an enjoyable title. You'll laugh out loud at some of the situations and characters, especially if you are a fantasy fan. However, the game can be a bit repetitive, and using your minions to do virtually everything (which you must do) is a mechanic that has lots of initial appeal but eventually can be slightly cumbersome. It's definitely worth a play-through, but purchasing it at full retail price probably isn't the best use of your funds.Read full review
