New York NewsdayAn unusual, beautifully written book that sets the coming-of-age of a perceptive child, full of merriment, pain, and compassion, against the brilliantly realized small German town relatively untouched by the world outside...remarkable., Alice McDermottA graceful, lyrical, heartbreaking book that offers many pleasures, not the least of which is the opportunity to read a very talented author writing at the top of her form, telling stories she seems born to tell in a voice that is completely her own. I ordered 2 books from this seller; this one was exactly as described and in good condition. The other is even better, but covered in other feedback. I would say that this seller's books are in better condition than other online used bookstores for the same price. The books were well wrapped, again better than other online used bookstores. Shipping was free which is always a plus. The books came quickly considering sometimes roads are closed due to high winds here. Very happy with purchase!

Story is set in 1950 in a small German town. About a young girl and her life. My grandmother was not crazy about it but she thought it was interesting. (ReviewsbyGrandma)

  • Floating In My Mother's Palm

Great read, very realistic story told from the perspective of a young daughter being raised by her single mother in post WWII. This is NOT a reconstructionist novel, but about relationships with parents, peers and growing up. Love reading Hegi's books - haven't read anything like this wonderfully thought-provoking book in a long, long time.
