About this product

Product Information

As the math education crisis in this country continues to make headlines, research continues to prove that it is in middle school when math scores begin to drop - especially for girls - in large part due to the relentless social conditioning that tells girls they 'can t do' math, and that math is 'uncool.' Young girls today need strong female role models to embrace the idea that it's okay to be smart! It's Danica McKellar's mission to be this role model, and demonstrate on a large scale that math doesn't suck. In this fun and accessible guide, McKellar - dubbed a 'math superstar' by The New York Times - gives girls and their parents the tools they need to master the math concepts that confuse middle - schoolers most, including fractions, percentages, pre-algebra, and more. The book features hip, real-world examples, step-by-step instruction, and engaging stories of Danica's own childhood struggles in math (and stardom). It even includes a Math Horoscope section, Math Personality Quizzes, and Real-Life Testimonials - ultimately revealing why math is easier and cooler than readers think.

  • Math Doesn't Suck

Dislike the title - it put me off for a while. But, "don't judge a book by its cover." A parent mentioned this book to me and said it was given to her daughter who had some interindividual problems with math - math was not her best subject. The mom offered to copy a few pages for me. However, I decided to be a good citizen and purchase this for my use in teaching my fifth grade class this year. What a gold mine! Like - This is a very pragmatic book. Teenagers can read it and look at the examples and make their way through their math curriculum. There is also some good common sense ideas for test taking. Love - The student whose "uncle" purchased this book for her has done us all a favor. I have used some of the "cheerleading" quotes to ...

  • Math Still Sucks But I Don't Hate it As Much!

Great Book- written in a way that makes it interesting and so easy to understand. I'm glad I have a daughter, not a son, in middle school because I'm not so sure my son would love this book as much! It is definitely aimed towards young girls but either way, her explanations & understanding of math makes it easy for anyone to stay interested and grasp.

  • Math Doesn't Suck

I love this book, as the mother/teacher of a homeschooled 7th grader this book provides invaluable information. I have always loved math and algebra always came easy to me but my daughter did not feel the same way. I saw this book in the book store and it looked like something my daughter would actually enjoy. It has personality quizzes and horoscopes. Before bying the book, I got it out of the library. It was so good, we needed to buy it. Danica explains math unlike anything I've ever seen, she even improved the way I think of Math. It is a great book to look back on for reference.
