picks up drums & room well, seems to have a nice thick sound, definitely worth what i payed for a used pair, would recommend these mics to anyone as all purpose studio work horse, also can be used in live settings, does a fine job, seems to have lots of headroom

AKG C 3000 B Condenser Professional Microphone
I have read reviews that have been mixed both positive and negative and in between. I have been performing, writing, recording, and producing professionally for 40+ years. This is a professional and quality microphone. This is a mic that you would not go wrong with if you know how to use it. It is a solidly built and somewhat rugged tool, still, you need to treat it with care, since it is a condenser, but it is not one that will die under rigorous use and common sense. I have four of them in my locker and they are a very good workhorse general purpose mic. It colors the sound it captures a little, but in a robust and good way. It is a nice warm mic and it can get you into a lot of trouble. It does not work for everything, so you need to know what it does do. It does not require a lot ... It is a nice warm mic and it can get you into a lot of trouble. It does not work for everything, so you need to know what it does do. It does not require a lot of EQ tweaking unless one wishes to do so. I don't find it harsh as others do unless you make it that way (it can be bright if you EQ it that way) and at the same time it doesn't boom on its’ own. I find it helps with some vocals by thickening them a little without massive EQ adjustment and it works well to give a little body to some types of thin male and female voices. It works well on overhead drums, electric guitars, and vocals, acoustic instruments like bluegrass instruments and works when needed as a live sound stage mic, but you need to know the secret of how to make this mic work and for what application to use it for. It has it’s own character which comes through very much so and Does Not capture just what is there like a Neumann U87, a CAD E350, a properly tweaked Rode NT-1A, etc. Because of this, I find it is a little forgiving when used in a production studio where performers want to do demos and are not world class, yet this mic will give their voice a good place in the mix, if matched to the voice(s), the music bed and properly EQ’d. One point is ‘Less is More’ with this mic. Know where to cut not boost. I would not use this mic in a multi-overdubbing situation because I have experienced that it can layer some weird artifacts and details that make it difficult to remove later. On multi-track single pass recording it works fine. Bang for buck, this is a very good large diaphragm microphone. It is not a high end quality mic but does what it was designed to do within a good price. For the beginning recording enthusiast and in the hands of an experienced engineer it can be a valuable tool in the tool box.

More AKG QUALITY
I use several C3000B mics they can be quite superb, and ya get some great deals getting em used on EBAY, as great stuff no Chinese swag, real mics from inovators and pioneers in the stuff. Got a couple well under $100 which is a superb price cus' brandnew they can be $429 sometimes $329, but that is actually cheap for such a superior mic, only the C414-XII or S is better, at a lot more money, So far all my AKG stuff is made in Austria, not Chinese stuff, well made superior sound and can take LOUd levels when recording.I use several C3000B mics they can be quite superb, and ya get some great deals getting em used on EBAY, as great stuff no Chinese swag, real mics from inovators and pioneers in the stuff. Better for instrument than voice
Good voice over mic but a better instrument mic. I used to have the original C3000 (green stripe) which I like better because of the switchable polar pattern. This doesn't have that but it has a -10db pad switch and a bass roll off switch.

The C3000b is a quality mic. It may not be a 414 but for my money it is in the ballpark. Some say it is a step up from the discontinued 3000 which is a bit brighter. Electronically some say superior but I do not hear it. I use both and think they are great deals especially used or at a discount. I still like the discontinued 3000 which I believe is a bit brighter or less honkey in the mids. Both are made in Austria,solid builds which will last quite a while versatile and designed for professional recording. A C3000b pair is a good combo for piano, Singly they deliver for instruments and vocals. C3000 is not the best mic in the world but if you can not get a good, accurate, or larger than life sound out of them Check the rest of your signal chain or your technique.The C3000b is a quality mic.
