Not Bad...
After using this light, I'm not sceptical about the 345 lumens. This light operates on either a single AA battery or a rechargeable 14500. I tested it with both battery types: There is a significant difference in lumens depending on the battery you use. My suggestion: Don't bother with the AA (or rather, keep it for a backup). Only use the rechargeable14500. The Coast HX5 is small and fits nicely in a pocket using the clip. PROS: Lumens and size. The white-colored beam has a nice center spot. Tailcap activation button. CONS: The tailcap button is a bit recessed. And personally, I don't like the spot/flood option only because it slides too easily and doesn't offer a lock-out (by turning it clockwise). Some previous versions of Coast did offer this option. The pocket clip isn't ... After using this light, I'm not sceptical about the 345 lumens. It's either on or off (or momentary on using the tailcap). This light is simple. Being said, the Coast is a good $16 purchase only if you use the 14500 battery to get maximum lumens.

I hand tightened where the battery goes because I saw a little bit of the O red ring. I guess that was a mistake because now it won’t open or come off at all. I used my Leatherman and vise grips to try to loosen it. Not a chance. I know how to work flashlights so I know I wasn’t making it any tighter then hand tight. So I suggest you leave it as is so you don’t end up like me. I’ll wait for the battery to die out then I’ll contact coast and see if they are true to the lifetime warranty. Surprising little light
For the longest time I put off buying one of these thinking of it as just another light. When I finally purchased one I was very pleased with its durability and unique battery compatibility. With a AA alkaline the light is around 145 lumens if I recall correctly, and 345 lumens with a lithium 14500. The lithium is what makes this little light so amazing, its very bright and throws quite the distance, so in my opinion the lithium is a must. I'm not a fan of "Modes" on flashlights so its simple on off feature is great for me. Ive also never really liked the projector/slide focus lens either, however you can reverse the clip to "lock" the slide focus into the beam focus versus the flood. Had one of these for several years until the damn Duracell battery went bad and ruined the inside of the flashlight. Loved this little light and had to have another. Once I find a product I love, I'm very loyal to the brand! (not the first electronics Duracell has ruined!)

Well made. Bright light. My frequently used light at my side by my desk to use when needed. 1 AA battery lasts such a long time with casual use. Focus feature is a nice addition. A great buy for under $20. I purchased two still in packaging for emergency hurricane pack and have a third that I use daily.
