Great Old-School Fate Record!
This is an awesome album. I would rate it up there with Mercyful Fate's early works in both style, quality of composition, musicianship and production. This would make sense, as this is classic Fate line-up: King, Denner, Shermann, Hanson, Shaw. I'd recommend this to any fan of early Mercyful Fate or the great Metal Blade releases of King Diamond solo project, or if you're just a fan of classic, dark progressive metal. Mercyful Fates comeback: In The Shadows
In The Shadows is a very solid "comeback" release for Mercyful Fate, 10 years earlier "Don't Break the Oath" was released with a Top Shelf World Tour following that annihilated all Bands in their path. Then the unthinkable, the Band broke up instead of changing the musical direction which started a whole new Genre. In The Shadows was produced by King Diamond, Hank Sherman & Tim Kinsey with awesome results. With the original MF line up minus Drummer Kim Russ the band sounds fresh, dark songs and great riffs with Diamonds Vocal command still in full force. I personally think all the songs kick a*@, some of my favorites are: The Bell Witch, The Old Oak, 13 Invatations, Room Of Golden Air & Is That You, Melissa.In The Shadows is a very solid "comeback" release for Mercyful Fate, 10 years earlier "Don't Break the Oath" was released with a Top Shelf World Tour following that annihilated all Bands in their path. If you loved the first two Mercyful Fate albums, then you must have this Shadows.It may be 10 years later, but it still packs the same awesomeness as Melisa and Don't break the Oath. Diamond, Sherman and Denner at their finest.
