Movie is just as I remembered it years ago. It occasionally plays on cable, but nice to be able to watch when I'd like. Only problem is about half way through, it tends to "freeze" a few seconds at a few points during approximately a 2 minute period. I searched back - ran it through again and "freezes" same place every time. Past that point (as before) it plays fine I could not find any contaminate on the disc. It's not bothersome enough to return.

Not for kids--meant for adult knowledge and sensibility (and not because of rating.) Not deep and not great, but a good 90 minute diversion. Bakshi's animation, special handling of news photography and other-movie outtakes are quite interesting. My copy was withdrawn from a public library and had some variability of sound (volume), but the read surface was certainly clear enough.

I remember this movie back in high school. I love the action, the animation and the story is very original and unique. Definitely recommend.

Ralph Bakski was the counter-traditional animator of the 1970s. Some of his pre-Wizards work included Fritz the Cat and Coonskin. Wizards, produced in 1976, is a story of good-versus-evil commentary on war. There are direct parallels between the evil Black Wolf and Nazis aggression of World War II. I like the character Avatar and the Borgesque Hugh character Necron 99. The rotoscoped war scenes are annoying after the umpteenth time in the film and I always hated the voice over of Bakski's films. The characters often are yelling or (worse yet) their voices are duplicated and repeated. I bought the film because of the nostalgic value of the work. Wizards was developed for an adult audience, it is not for children. Another film of this era that I like is Bruno Bozzetto's Allegro Non Troppo. An Italian animation put together like Fantasia, but with a sarcastic adult edge. The short set to Ravel's Bolero is still a classic for me.Read full review
I love this movie! I saw it in the theater on its first run and was really impressed then and the thing that gets me is it’s applicable in large parts to the events of today!
