Great for the small-wristed crowd
I've always wanted a Seiko Tuna! But as a member of the Itty Bitty Wrist Committee, they were an unattainable dream, reserved for the elect who could sport a 45mm case size watch without overhang. Took me a while to finally purchase this watch, as I hesitated between the Baby Tuna 40mm automatic and this 38mm solar. I'm glad I purchased the solar! The size and weight are perfect for a daily beater, and the color scheme just goes with my more rugged workwear. Sometimes I catch myself just staring at this bezel. What a bezel! No photos in promotional do it justice. The champagne color is what makes this watch shine. I liked the textured rubber strap that comes with the watch, it's soft and comfortable - but I'm probably going to swap it for a bracelet or a Nato at some point. I don't think ... Great for the small wrist if you like Tunas! Original Design that I like, but may not be for everyone.
This is a really nice piece, though it's not for everyone-- it's not a 'ladies' watch specifically, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a ladies dive watch unless it's pink and has rhinestones or something, but it is quite small, so It might look odd on a guy with a wrist larger than 6.5 inches. The alignment of hands is great, accuracy seems spot on with my atomic clock-- over the past week, it's sometimes a second fast or slow, but that could be the clock in between synching. But that means it's no more than + or - 4, per month, which is fine for any quartz. The blue of the band and dial is very dark, the bezel action is stiff, but quite usable-- the bezel alignment, for me, requires a little backplay, and the bezel action does have some, but it doesn't slip. The strap is short ... The strap is short enough and the metal keeper works and looks cool-- even with a 6.2 wrist, the keeper ensures that the loose end doesn't flop around, first watch with a strap I've ever had that I didn't have to cut. Again, the design isn't for everyone, but for me? It's one of the few watches I can wear with a short sleeved shirt, the lug-to-lug is really short. Some folks complain that there's play in the crown, and I think that's fair, it's a little fiddly to set because everything is so small. But again, the alignment is great, so who cares? Once it's set, it's really easy to read, and I always worry about legibility with rectangular watch hands. No problem. IMHO, this model is generally overpriced, so I was really happy to find it for just under $289-- wouldn't be worth $350 to me, but I'm a cheapskate.
