It also works with re-chargeable batteries but is less bright because of the lower voltage they supply. (1.2 volts for rechargeable vs. 1.5 for standard ones.

The beam adjusts from very small to wide. Has flashing mode too. Perfect for the glovebox in the car. I put lithium batteries in it. Alkaline batteries have a tendency to leak, which will ruin flashlight.
