Notes
New York quartet Interpol... tap into the sound of Joy Division, Wire, Josef K and early Cure. But it's really the strong melodies and moody background music that set (them) apart - and could make then New York's next most talked about band - Entertainment Weekly.

  • and so it begins...

This album is the first record by the New York Quartet, and a benchmark for the Art Rock genre. The album starts off with an atmospheric song that has a sort of warm droning that is the perfect step stool into the second track, and first single of the album Obstacle 1; a jarring, nostaligias view on a vauge relationship. This track is foreshadowing of the guitar interplay and haunting melodies throughout this album perfectaly orchestrating a very cold and daunting musical environment. PDA, another jem on the album has an amazing interlude towards the end of the song that shows the bands true skill through inter-harmonic guitar layers and an amazing rythum. This is one of the few albums I can truely say is listenable the whole way through. Each song has it's own charm and story that ...

  • interpol sums up indie: boring

indie music I define as average, middle of the nowhere and boring. this album and the band could be the best indie album of them all. so being the best at average and boring really sums this up. none of it is bad, it just goes nowhere slowly. todays music don't have a soul, and its lifeless too. I want to like newer music, but its a waste of time. play most any rock album from late sixties thru the eighties and my foot starts moving, and my body feels the pulse of music and life. my spirit is lifted with "old" music. Interpol just don't have that to me.

  • My favorite Interpol album

My favorite Interpol album. Especially the song 'PDA'...I don't know it just makes me nostalgic for early 2000's NYC.

  • Impressive!

Some may cal them Joy Division wannabe. Me, I am Joy Division hardcore fan mayself. And I was relieved that I can still find a band that can offer similar sounding music to JD. I can choose to be skeptical and start bitching about Interpol being a JD copy - HEY what do I gain from it. Let's just shut up and enjoy the music

  • Hands down, THE best album of all time.

They blow The Doors and Joy Division out of the water. With the opener song "Untitled" you are mesmerized...and it's continues until the closer "Leif Erikson," which has little to do with the actualy Leif Erikson, but has some of the most beautiful lyrics.
