About this product

Product Information

Like its popular home-computer forebears, the handheld edition of Anno 1701 challenges players to explore an untamed New World and claim a piece of it as their own. Sunflowers' staple series of conquest settles on Nintendo DS with all major elements of gameplay intact. Players rise to power by staking their claims in resource-rich wildernesses, protecting their growing outposts from threats both internal and external, harvesting the riches of the land, and mastering the economics of trade -- with neighboring settlements and Old World patrons alike.

There must be enough income to pay for a town's protection, maintenance, and development, but if taxes are too high the people will revolt. Without a militia to fend off attacks from pirates and other enemies, a town's wealth can be stolen away in a moment, but too much time and money spent on the military will leave little for infrastructure maintenance or trade improvements. The concerns of a New World governor are as wide and varied as the sea itself, and so finding a working balance is crucial to survival. Finding a profitable balance is what separates the conquerors from the conquered.

Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery can be played almost entirely with the stylus, which takes the place of the mouse cursor used in the PC versions' interfaces. Generally, the interactive map screen is displayed in the lower screen while informational pages and narrative developments appear in the upper screen. Graphics have been optimized for the DS, yet should be warmly recognizable to fans of earlier computer editions in the Anno (or A.D., as it was previously titled in North America) series of games.

  • Excellent game with minor flaws.

I love this game, if you like building large civilizations and managing your economy then this game is for you. The military aspect is lacking, although it does make for an interesting additional aspect of the game. The only problem that I have with the game is the graphics while zoomed out. Their are 2 view modes, zoomed in and zoomed out. While zoomed in you can perform any and all of the same task you can while zoomed out, however your city comes to life as little civilians and building graphics become increasingly visible. The carttonish yet not overly simplistic desing of the buildings is not done justice unless zoomed in. The problem with this is that it is not easy or efficient to manage your economy while zoomed in. Zooming in is ideal for placing roads and builings in cluttered ...

  • a great game in the series

I bought it because I had the cd's for the computer didnt work. I like that it has more features than the other games in the series. It has better game play. I like the time its based on. I dont like that the computer players are not very smart and sometimes go bankrupt on their own. This product is much better than the other two series. I'd give the game a 8 out of ten Ten being the over all quality of the game

  • Great strategy game.

Great strategy game. Build a society. Play through the story or never ending modes. Game is quick paced with financial and natural disasters.

  • I am very happy with my game.

Great Game. Not as good graphics as the origanal Dawn of discovery but at least no glitches like the first one.

  • ANNO 1701: Dawn of Discovery (Nintendo DS)

This is a fun building sim that you rule over a few islands. It also involves trade with your competitors. If you have played any of the Anno game for the pc you are ready for this game :)
