Synopsis
A gripping account of the bombing raids during the first years of the war. First published in 1942, Bomber Command features full maps, photographs and a description of the air assault on Germany. Reproduced with its original jacket, it is itself a memorable piece of contemporary design. Important qualities are required of a bomber pilot. He must be capable of considerable physical and mental endurance, for it is necessary for him to remain nine, ten, eleven or even twelve hours in the air. During much of the flight he may find his aircraft the object of an attack by enemy fighters far faster and more heavily armed. The bomber pilot must fly doggedly on, defending himself with the aid of darkness and cloud outside and with the skill of his crew and their machine guns inside., Environmental conflicts are increasing in number and intensity, demanding new approaches to dispute resolution such as environmental mediation. This book contains the expertise of 28 specialists; stresses the need for mediated dispute resolution as an alternative to litigation; calls for a communitarian approach; explores conceptual foundations and conflicts resistant to mediation; and answers How do we know what we know? Addresses training mediators; discusses special problems of small communities, value of citizen participation, and EPA regulatory negotiation; explores ethics and social justice; and considers future challenges and issues confronting theory and practice. Case studies analyze nuclear waste siting, highway design, wilderness designation, field burning, and Environmental Impact Statement development. Intended for alternative dispute resolution practitioners, scholars, and citizen environmentalists. Authors provide insights from many academic disciplines and practical experience. Reed advocates creating sustainable communities; O'Leary calls for new research; Maida contends that law and economics offer viable perspectives; and Allen prescribes mediation training. Dworkin and Jordan contribute a teaching case; Klase addresses problems in rural areas; and the Burgesses offer steps to make difficult confrontations constructive. Clary and Hornney argue that prenegotiation and negotiation are essential; Richardson describes facilitated negotiation; and Bogdonoff explains negotiated rule-making in Maine. Stephens, Stephens, and Dukes suggest that ethical considerations are due the environment; Blackford and Matunga advise sensitivity to cultural differences; Ryan demonstrates the utility of conflict management by the EPA. Wood and Guy describe how local governments can achieve consensus; and Baird, Maughan, and Nilson offer reasons mediation failed in Idaho. Mangerich and Luton describe an urban-rural conflict in Washington state, and Blackburn provides his Eclectic Theory to guide future research.

1st edition, 2nd impression edition of "The Drunken Forest," by Gerald Durrell is as pictured & described. Arrived quickly & safely! Got a great deal on it! Great communication! The book, with a protective mylar cover, was wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped in sturdy cardboard, then placed in a rugged bubble mailer! Fort Knox in a mailer! So hard to get an early edition of this classic! So happy to add to my growing collection of nature & science books! Thank you! !!Seller Highly Recommended!!

This delivery was earliest date! Condition, value, quality - all as described. (My mistake was not requiring the publishing date to be 1958. This was 1977.) This IS a Viking Portable Library copy of Dante's Divine Comedy in English, translated by Laurence Binyon, but it is with a cover DIFFERENT from what was shown. The tracking number was listed as from "UPS", but should have been listed as from "USPS." Contact with this seller alleviated tracking issues. I recommend this seller! Thank you!
