This is a large aperture prime lens with a standard focal length of 50mm, ideal for all digital SLR cameras. This lens has superior peripheral brightness even at the maximum aperture and corrects a possible sagittal coma flare. This lens is perfectly suited for a wide range of subjects enabling outstanding, sharply defined images against a nicely blurred background. The fast, F1.4 aperture makes this lens desirable for use with digital SLR cameras. This lens effectively becomes an 80mm medium telephoto lens on digital cameras with APS-C size image sensors. The optimum optical design and molded glass aspherical lens elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. Great for Studio work! Tack sharp at f7.1! Solid build quality!
At f1.4 it is just acceptable, but I shoot within the studio, and it is splendid for me. Outdoors and specially when the sun is out you will notice some CA which disappears at 7.1 though. Off course the Nikon version will do the same, but will not look as professional as this Sigma. Unfortunate resolution
I was so excited to buy this lens, but when I did, I did multiple tests with different other lenses and found that this lens is ok. 50MM Nikon (old) and new version lens rocks and can be found cheaper, again I was unfortunately disappointed with this lens. This lens results in absolutely amazing images and has become my favorite prime lens for the nikon d610 and d750 with only tge older nikkor 105mm macro as a close runner up in regards to portraits.
