About this product

Product Information

This vintage Konica Autoreflex T3 35mm SLR Film Camera holds benefits for both collectors and photographers. The Autoreflex series cameras were introduced in 1965. They were the first to offer focal-plane-shutter auto exposure, hence the name Autoreflex. The fully mechanical Konica system requires no batteries. The system gives priority to the shutter when setting exposures. This means that the lens aperture is automatically selected based on your chosen shutter speed. The Autoreflex T series cameras were also the first focal-plane-shutter cameras to combine auto-exposure and TTL, or through-the-lens, light metering. While the operation is completely mechanical, the CdS light meters require two PX675 type mercury batteries to operate. The Autoreflex series from Konica excels at providing a quick shutter release with little power use.The Autoreflex T3 includes a self-timer with an aperture-stop-down and depth-of-field preview. To set the self-timer, push the button on the lever hub and turn the lever counter-clockwise. For the aperture-stop-down, push the lever toward the camera's center. The shutter-speed dial is integrated with a Multiple-Exposure switch. These two features work in conjunction with a shutter-cocking indicator. Green indicates that the shutter is cocked while red indicates that it's not. The viewfinder on the T3 has a brighter display than previous models. For photographers, the display includes both the shutter speed and the aperture setting so that professionals and hobbyists alike have the freedom to customize their capture settings. Photographers can continue to use the Autoreflex T3 for photography for a number of reasons. It has a smooth and steady operation. The camera supports a wider range of ISO film speeds than earlier models, from 12 to 3200. This Konica is the last of the full-size, all-metal models with steel screws replacing brass screws for durability. It is an extremely sturdy camera, and it's easy for photographers to repair on their own if needed.Another feature that makes this camera useful for photographers is the range of lenses that can be used with it. The Autoreflex T3 was manufactured with the Konica Bayonet Mount II, commonly known as the K/AR or AR bayonet mount. When this mount was introduced, Konica adapted older lenses for use with the new mount. In addition, an adapter enables the use of a Konica F, FS, FP, and FM with this mount. A K/AR mount lens has a very short flange-to-film plane distance or film register of 40.5mm. This short film register and available adapters enable photographers to easily mount a lens from other manufacturers on this camera. The compatible lens selection includes vintage Pentax 42mm screw mount and Nikon F-mount lenses. The adapters can use the inbuilt optics to enable the adapted lenses to focus to infinity. You can distinguish the T3 by means of several markings on the camera. A stamped and painted "T-3" with the dash appears between the prism bump and the rewind lever on the top. On the front of the camera, the "T3" appears without the dash. The serial number is engraved below the wind lever on the rear of the top plate.

The Konica "Autoreflex" camera was miles ahead of the competition. it was constructed in the most sturdy body ( and heavier) camera o the market . It was also backed up with the finest selection of high quality lenses. I know from experience because I had a camera store and I sold many of them. When the digital age evolved the company main business was in films, paper, and chemicals for the camera and offices machines saw the future for film cameras and merged with Minolta to combine there efforts for the business market. The new company Konica/Minolta produced one digital camera and left that market . They are in the office machine business today.

  • Konica Autoreflex =quality!

Have used Konica Autoreflex's for years. Super reliable and well built. Not the lightest or quietest camera but.....they just work when you need them!! Sharpest lens by far...the 50/1.4 late model. All my work is B&W ....so for color your milage may vary.

Nice camera, but the best thing about it is that it can be used without the batteries! It requires you to think about what you are doing. I like that.

  • built like a tank

Hard to beat good Japanese photo equipment from this era. I only wish they built the new digital stuff like this.
