About three days later, I was taking the cover off when it snagged on a windshield wiper. Previous cars needed tools to remove the wiper so I thought nothing of pulling the cover up to grab the wiper and free it. Much to my surprise, the BMW i3 wiper came off in my hand and the arm snapped down cracking the windshield.
I first scheduled an appointment with Safelite who revealed it was not a $600 job but required a $1,100 repair because the collision avoidance is part of the windshield. Concerned that Safelite might not have the resources to align the camera, I took it to BMW.
The part cost $1,100 and took two days to arrive. Replacement costs $700 in labor with an extra 3 hours. Because of the carbon fiber body, it takes careful effort to remove the cracked windshield. There are rumors of other bungled, windshield repairs that destroyed the $20,000 body of a BMW i8.
The cover was not the fault. Rather, I didn't know about the BMW i3-REx windshield wiper coming off so easily. Per Google, wiper arms snapping down and cracking windshields is common enough to get lots of hits. Just tuition in the school of 'hard knocks.' But the cover works as expected.
Being external to the car, the cover minimizes how much solar heating enters the cabin. So when my BMW i3-REx is on charger, I can 'precondition' preparing the batteries and cooling the cabin happens by the time I walk to the car. Without it, the steering wheel and seats are almost too hot to touch.

no other words to describe this perfect fitting cover. does it's job perfectly and made to fit. only complaints would be the outrageous cost, and the plastic used in the little window does not survive the sun very well (color burned)
The see-through window in the front that’s suppose to give clear view of the vehicle’s registration is on the wrong side! it’s on the passenger side, it’s suppose to be on the driver side (at least in the USA). Should have been specified this is for European model.
