    Awesome Value

I had done some research on-line before deciding to purchase the Cold Steel Kobun Tanto knife. All the reviews were good and I decided to go ahead and make the buy. Even so, I was still somewhat skeptical that the knife was as good as all the reviews said it was, yet the price was low so I thought, "why not". Even if I didn't like the knife, I could still pass it on to someone as a Christmas gift. I want to say that the Kobun turned out be a great surprise and was well worth the purchase price. Quality and finish of the knife is excellent! The grip is one of the best I have ever held and the factory edge on the blade is very good. The blade is made of stainless steel and took a good edge without much effort. Also the knife is rather light weight which is neither good or bad but would depend on what your purpose for it's use. I would not recommend it as a survival knife to use for cutting down trees with. However, it would be useful as a carry knife for hunting. About the only thing I have not made up my mind about is the sheath. It's a molded plastic material (I believe it's called Kydex) which fits the knife beautifully and it has a belt clip. I generally prefer a leather sheath but that's personal opinion. The sheath does what it's intended to do and that is to protect the blade and it's owner. Overall, this knife is one of the great values out there! I do not have any regrets purchasing it and I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Best regards and Good Hunting

  • Top critical review

Handle size is detrimental to a good knife

The knife is well made but the knife handle is small. I know it is supposed to be small but this is really small. I wouldn't have bought the knife if I had picked it up in a store. It is well made and probably as robust as other Cold Steel products but it doesn't fit my hand at all. The Cold Steel Voyager XL with a tanto blade was a better choice for me, I have both but wanted the extra strength of the fixed blade. Oh well, sometimes you win and sometimes you don't.

  • Great knife for the price

This is a good Tanto blade, it feels very thin in my hand and light weight. It is not suited a good choice for bushcraft, this is definitely a tactical blade best suited for self defense but it can serve as a general purpose knife, just be aware the blade profile doesn't make it the best choice for the things I usually use a knife for. I am very pleased with this knife and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light Tanto style knife.

  • Amazing bang for your buck!

This knife is a work of utilitarian art! Razor sharp out of the box! Yes, I did shave my arm hairs with it! It's an amazing EDC depending on your state laws permitting or not! Tanto designed to pierce metal sheet! Would make for a great survival and fighting knife if need be. Search use videos on YouTube to see the rest of its usefulness!

  • Crazy awsome.

You will not be disappointed in this knife. Insane how it feels in the hand and it is designed to be a defense or attach knife. It is a military dream, how it handles and cuts through anything so easy. Light as a feather. You will not be left with something you cannot use. The grip is great. Be careful with this one if you are not experienced. SWEET.

  • Great

Right length, weight, and feel. Can be used as a thrower (balance and weight just right). Not heavy, so control is there. Haven't had a real chance to run it through it's paces, cutting wood, rope, cordage, etc. It looks like it will do the job though.

  • Medium dutey "Sharp holder"

A great replacement system for the heavy duty "Marine survival or forward recon" tantos of the day, "yesterday and today".....This is the litewieght version of both knives, comes with a sheath that is adequate to keep the edge from damage but could be better with a hard sheath. Don't get me wrong, this thing will do what it is intended to do, what all tantos are intended for is "Battle", This one will do battle and then some in a short term stasis, "It's lite weight is intended for short time use"....Well it will do the short term and probably go a bit further, keep it's edge and then call for a new edge but it will hold the edge and take a few more. "THAT'S A GOOD THING"....lot's of knives won't take but two good edges before you throw them in the tool box. You can be proud of this knife.

  • Great knife, BAD sheath

Excellant high quality low cost knife. The sheath is well below the quality of the knife. Spring clip will not secure the knife to a belt. I have lost it twice and had to hike back a mile or so to find it. A great knife deserves a great sheath, someone screwed up here or maybe its how the price stays low.

  • Bevel could be better

Decent edge out of the box but bevel was way too steep. Spent some time with a file and the oil stone and now it'll split hairs. Good balance and a firm polymer grip.

  • Great knife but the belt clip is useless

Knife and sheath are exactly what you expect from Cold Steel ..great product and excellent value. The metal belt clip does not hold the sheath to your belt when the knife is drawn. Very poorly designed. I believe the older models had a plastic belt clip which was more secure. I'm surprised at the change for a knife that could be used for self defense.
