About this product

Product Information

I've gone by many names though you know me as Milady de Winter- Villainess, seductress, a secondary player in The Three Musketeers story. But we all know history was written by men, and they so often get things wrong. So before you cast judgment, let me tell you of how a girl from the countryside became the most feared woman in all of Europe. A target for antipathy, a name whispered in fear or loathing. I don't need you to like me. I just need to be free. It's finally time I tell my own story. The truth isn't tidy or convenient, but it's certainly more interesting.

Praise for Milady : "A devious, delectable historical spy confection in which an icing of lavish court intrigue slyly masks heady doses of ripe feminism and lethal social commentary. Milady snared me in its web from the first pages and I'll be first in line for the film premiere."--Lyndsay Faye, Edgar-nominated author of Jane Steele and The Paragon Hotel, Praise for Milady : "A woman's place is no longer in the subplot and Milady de Winter is a 17th century heroine destined for the 21st century. With bold, witty writing, and a narrative that rips along, Laura L. Sullivan crafts a compelling novel for a character deserving of her own story. I loved it!"--Hazel Gaynor, New York Times bestselling author of The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter "A devious, delectable historical spy confection in which an icing of lavish court intrigue slyly masks heady doses of ripe feminism and lethal social commentary. Milady snared me in its web from the first pages and I'll be first in line for the film premiere."--Lyndsay Faye, Edgar-nominated author of Jane Steele and The Paragon Hotel

  • Not really so evil after all.

Having enjoyed the 3 musketeers for many years, I was delighted to see a book on Milady. This is a terrific read full of adventures and background for a very complex villain. It interesting that in these days stories like Wicked and now Milady make us take a look at what we always assumed were purely wicked evil scoundrels and decide if they were really all that bad. I enjoy all of them and this one is no exception.

  • Milady could have been a little better!

This is more like a three and a half star than a four in rating. This is well written but a little too contrived. Historical research is well done. Definitely not the Milady of The Three Musketeers. This is supposed to be Milady's side of the story. I found it about equal to the other fictional novel based on the Three Musketeers called Athos and Milady. I found Tiffany Thayer's The Three Musketeers written in the 1930's a little bit better than this and Dumas' play the Youth of the Musketeers which is the prequel and the Three Musketeers novel with some minor differences all in one play to me is better than this. The author in my opinion has probably seen every version she could get a hold of the Three Musketeers films and their prequels and sequeIs and voila the author has the basis for ...
