The photographic work by O. Winston Link is fantastic! It includes many black and white shots, a good number of which were taken at night using flash setups that illuminated the desired elements and allowed the distractive details to remain hidden in the darkness. There is a section of color photos, many of which record the beauty of Fall in the area served by the Norfolk and Western. The images were made in the 1950's, just before steam locomotives were replaced by diesels. The book is a great record of life on and around a rural railroad. I'm really happy to have it!
The one of it's kind project of an artist: to document a way of living that has now disappeared. Beautiful photos, most of them taken at night and technically difficult to achieve. A precious legacy by a master of flash photography.

I purchased this book on steam railroads in America because I am very interested in the steam engines. This is about the last steam railroad in America. The pictures were excellent and the text was interesting reading. I believe there is one more book like this one and I would be very interested in purchasing it also. If anyone has an interest in the steam locomotives this book would be a good one to own.
Wonderful book that captures N&W RR’s last days of steam; incomparable photos by O Winston Link.
