A Replacement Pen
The Leap Frog Leap Read pen I received works well and keeps my grandson entertained for hours. In Kindergarten he is beginning to read and I feel this is helping him with that. He particularly like the songs on the pen. The reason for the low rating is that this pen is a replacement for a previous one he had that just flat stopped working. I did everything shown on the internet to fix the problem but nothing worked. The only saving grace is that we were able to transfer all the books from the previous pen to the new pen. The Leap Frog Leap Read pen I received works well and keeps my grandson entertained for hours. In Kindergarten he is beginning to read and I feel this is helping him with that. Great! But know what you're getting.
I love these pens for my kids. My only complaint or warning would be: If you had the Tag Pen version (that reads board books and traditional books) this pen only works with a small fraction of them and NO board books. The Leapfrog website says that the library is much larger, but it's from a different set of books that are in large part audio only. If I had to do it again, I'd still have purchased one for my oldest, but I would have tapered my expectations a little. It's kind of disappointing that out of their 50+ books, it might work with 10 or 15 (most of those the learning to read series). My girls are still on the young side for it, but it obviously frustrates them too when they pick a book and can't read it with that pen. It's definitely not instead of, but in addition to the Tag ... I love these pens for my kids. We love all things leapfrog. This pen reader system is a great update to the tag pen reader system. Encourages my kids to interact with books, imagine the voices, hear the sounds, look in depth at the pictures. we have used to the Tag Jr. and Tag systems and now upgraded to the leapreader. and love not having to search for batteries, they (we have 2) charge through any usb port. We sometimes have to reload the leapfrog connect app onto our laptop to download audio for new books, but that is the only negative thing I can think of.We love all things leapfrog.
