About this product

Product Information

High contrast, superior quality, gaming capabilities, and an upgraded home theater system come together with the Optoma HD70 DLP Projector. This 720p projector is easy to set up and allows users to watch sports with stunning realism, movies with a theater feel, and play games while feeling like they are in the game. The manufacturer’s guide, or manual, provides step-by-step instructions that allow people to quickly and easily implement this projector into an existing home theater system. This is ideal for those shopping for projectors looking for something that does not require extensive technology expertise. The Optoma HD70 projector has 1000 ANSI lumens and a full on/off contrast of 3000:1. The light engine has a 4x rotation color wheel, is 1280 by 720, single-chip DLP, has a 200-watt UHP lamp, and a 7 segment. This Optoma HD70 projector has a wealth of video compatibility. This projector’s video compatibility includes HDTV 1080p/60, 720p, 576i, NTSC/PAL/SECAM, 1080i, 576p, and 480p. This allows for versatility when connecting this projector to a variety of screens. Computer resolutions as high as SXGA+ are this projector’s data compatibility. The connection panel on the Optoma HD70 projector has a variety of options, making it easy to connect a variety of accessories. These include an HDMI port, a VGA port, a composite video port, a Kensington lock port, a set of YPbPr component inputs, an S-Video port, a 12-volt trigger, and a service port. The exact location of each port is listed on the projector’s panel and in the manual, so they are easy to locate. The lens and throw distance of the Optoma HD70 projector can take a 100-inch diagonal 16:9 image and throw it from 11.5 feet to 13.3 feet. The manual zoom/focus lens is 20:1 and manual. The Optoma projector’s brightness is superior and is 1000. The lamp life extends 3,000 hours in eco-mode and 2,000 hours outside of this mode. This means that users get a lot of life out of a single lamp before having to worry about replacing it with a new one. The Optoma projector has no lens shift and a native resolution of 1280 by 720. It uses DLP technology and the specifications show that it is easy to connect to things like gaming systems and other technology using the proper cable that is not included with the projector. Users simply have to adjust the Optoma projector to properly focus on the screen before getting started with using it. This is a simple process that takes a matter of minutes. Once the focus is correct, it offers high-quality, especially with shadow details and black levels. This helps to ensure a sharp image being projected onto the screen for those viewing it. This Optoma projector is very lightweight, especially compared to similar ones on the market. It weighs just 5.6 pounds, so it is easy to work with and users can place it almost anywhere within their entertainment system. It measures just 3.7 x 10.4 x 10.1 inches. The max power of this device is 250 watts, so it does not use a lot of energy. The proper voltage for this unit is 100 to 240 volts.

  • 2008 HD70 Review

This is a great projector when you give it a 720p or higher signal from a modern device. I use a PS3 with it and Blu rays look amazing. I saw som many things in 5th element I had never seen in the four times or so I saw it on DVD. DVD's look pretty nice too. As for the on board image up scaling, this projector was released in 2006 so its video processing technologies are getting a little older. Something like the Benq W500 (made in 2008), has much more advanced upscaling. The only negative I really have is placement is very difficult with this projector. With its steep projection angle, I have to place it 2' off the floor to get a 9' screen just a little short of an 8' ceiling. So I would suggest people research projection angles and mounting options before purchasing any projector. Good ...

  • OPTOMA HD70 is great!

I am a huge fan of this projector, and usually if you bargain hunt you can get it for somewhere around $600 (which is way less money than a smaller-screen HDTV). For months I had been researching HD projectors, and it seemed that if you're getting into home theater projection, the Optoma HD70 is the way to go... affordable, great picture, etc. I kept trying to find the right price when I saw one online for a little less than $600, so I jumped on it. I am so glad I did because it really is a great little projector. It's small enough to be portable or to mount to a pretty low ceiling (without having to worry about it falling and killing someone), but it has great contrast and is plenty bright, even with a light or two on. My girlfriend and I had been HDTV shopping, but we hate how sharp ...

  • Optoma HD70

For an entry level projector this little baby puts out a beautiful crisp picture!!! I have a blueray, PS3, XBox 360, and digital high def cable hooked up to it so far. I watched a couple blueray movies so far and they look almost as good as the LCD!!! Video games are superior in super size!! The standard television low def crap channels still look standard low def and crappy...but this is the case on any device :) I've gotten just about a 100 inch screen in a 12 foot room. Even during the day the picture looks good however the darker the better. Dislikes...NONE!!! For the price you can't complain! If you want a High Def supersized screen in your living room for under $1000.00 the HD70 is the way to go!

  • Great little projector.

This is the second of these that I have bought so that should tell you something. I have the one in my dedicated theater room which looks amazing and I have the other in my bedroom which uses a motorized screen. The bedroom does get ambiant light coming into it and the projector has no problem overpowering it. For the price you cannot go wrong with this projector. I have owned everything from benq to infocus to etc. and this has been the best hands down.
