Sweet and True to the Book
This version is so true to the book and the lead actress was superb. I was always a fan of the Shirley Temple version but didn't realize that it had detoured so much from the book until I read it recently. After finishing the book I of course wanted to watch every version out there, and stumbled upon this one on Amazon Prime, but it abruptly ended about 3/4s of the way through! I was so happy to find a copy of the DVD on Ebay. It is a delightful version for those who love the book! :)This version is so true to the book and the lead actress was superb. I remember the first time my mother taped this a long, long time ago when I was just a youngster, and I loved it so much. This little British film is so wonderful. It's not just for kids - adults will definitely love this too! It will make you laugh and cry. It is one of the best Little Princess movies out there. It even tops off Shirley Temple's version, which I hate to say wasn't even close to being as good as this version. Also, the new (1995?) version was too childish for me, even though the cast was great. I thought this one had excellent acting, especially for it's time, and Amelia lights up the screen. I am so glad it's finally remastered on DVD now. However, I dislike the fact that they deleted some parts from the DVD version that is originally on the VHS version, and also cut the ... Worth the Wait and Worth the Money!
I remember watching this movie on PBS. This movies stays true to the book of Francis Hodgson Burnett. It brings this charming book to life. You find yourself rooting for Sara as she goes to being rich, then sadly being poor when her Father died. Especially under the cruel money-living head mistress Maria Michin and her weak sister Amelia. She endured the harsh treatment as she is made a maid.😥 But thanks to her belief in magic as well as the help from her friends, she ends with a good ending. True to the Book
This TV version of the book does a nice job of staying true to the storyline in the novel. You will pay a premium to own a copy of this DVD for yourself because they are out of print. I grabbed it to show to my middle school literature class and will hang on to it for my grandchildren. I especially enjoyed the portrayal of Sarah and Ms. Minchin.
