  • Jeff Lynne Remains A Master And A Musical Genius

After being resigned to never hearing anything new from Jeff (seems like every year there were reports of a new album), I was pleasantly surprised (2 years after the fact) to learn of this album. As per Wikipedia, "In 2008, The Washington Times named Lynne the fourth greatest record producer in music history." I think he should be #1. From The Move to ELO to the Traveling Wiburys to his solo work, Jeff remains a musical genius. Loved every song on this collection. My only complaint is that clocking in at 27 minutes (and that's with the supposed "bonus track" "Beyond The Sea") I was left wanting more. It may be a "covers" album, but it's all pure Jeff Lynne. Any fan of his work will not be disappointed.

  • I'm a big Jeff Lynne fan, but I'm not a big fan of this album.

Jeff Lynne is my all-time musical hero, and his band ELO was the very first band I really paid any attention to, and quickly became my all-time favorite band, with the Beatles coming in a pretty close second. With that being said, Jeff's first solo album "Armchair Theatre" was a great album, and also included cover songs "September Song", "Don't Let Go" and "Stormy Weather", but that album also included a predominance of original Jeff Lynne written songs. "Long Wave" is a collection of entirely cover songs from the 50's and 60's (and maybe a few prior to the 50's). These are supposed to be songs Jeff grew up listening to. Although the songs are well done, and many are considerably different from the original versions, this is not an album that I find myself listening to very much. The ...
