La propuesta de convocar a Jacques Ranciere, Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe y Alain Badiou a una charla en torno a las ideas de Mallarme sobre el teatro coincidia con un momento particular del debate contemporaneo europeo, afectado por las consecuencias del derrumbe del llamado bloque socialista y la entronizacion del discurso hegemonico del fin de la historia y de las ideologias, que sostenia la idea de la sociedad de mercado como unico mundo posible. En ese contexto, de profundizacion de las desigualdades sociales y de las formas de perpetuacion del poder y de la dominacion simbolica, se suscitaron entre muchos intelectuales de izquierda nuevas preguntas acerca de posibles caminos silenciosos, subterraneos de emancipacion politica, y tambien una especial atencion al siglo XIX, el siglo de la Historia, de la emergencia del Proletariado y de las rebeliones populares. Alain Badiou nacio en Rabat (Marruecos), en 1937. Estudio filosofia en la Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris entre 1956 y 1961. Fue discipulo de Louis Althusser. Fue miembro fundador del PSU (Parti Socialiste Unifie) y ha militado en diversos movimientos politicos de orientacion marxista. Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe (Tours, 1940 - Paris, 2007) fue filosofo, critico literario y traductor. Escribio sobre Heidegger, Derrida, Lacan, el romanticismo aleman, Paul Celan y la desconstruccion. Ademas, tradujo al frances obras de Heidegger, Celan, Nietzsche, Benjamin y Hoelderlin. Jacques Ranciere nacio en Argel, en 1940. Es filosofo y profesor emerito de politica y de estetica de la Universidad de Paris VIII y de la European Graduate School.
