Excellent action, loyalty and love tween xena and Gabrielle, magic, thought-provoking.
As I have said about other seasons of "Xena", she is my favorite hero! (Love Kevin Sorbo as Hercules as well, of course...that show is where we first encounter Xena, and many of the importnt events overlap in the two series. I advise people to watch BOTH series so they have the whole view!) Xena is intense, fiery, courageous, but capable of tenderness to loved ones. In season five, it sometimes seems confusing when Greek Pagan pantheons of Gods and another religion SORT of like Christianity (the followers of Eli) are shown in Xena's world at the same time. Xena and her soul mate, Gabrielle are returned from the dead. Xena becomes pregnant, has a child. After this, because of who Eve is, all manner of things are put into play, even the fate of the Olympian Gods. You'll just have to ... Babies make 5th season less successful
I have been a fan of Xena: Warrior Princess since discovering it at age 10 during its 2nd season. The show is exciting with Xena and her gal-pal (and some would say lover) Gabrielle cutting a swath of bad guys down across Greece and later Chin (early China) and India. In seasons 3 and 4 production value increased dramatically and the stories became much more visceral and emotional. In season 5, though the effort and intentions are there, the show had to slow down considerably because of actress Lucy Lawless's pregnancy. Lucy herself has admitted that this season is severely lackluster due to her inability to perform stunts and exert herself like she had in seasons past. To accommodate their lead actress's delicate condition there is a slew of silly, pointless, unintelligible filler ... I have been a fan of Xena: Warrior Princess since discovering it at age 10 during its 2nd season. And, of course, once Xena's child is born (Xena is also pregnant on the series) writers knew Xena couldn't traipse around the world with a baby on her back and so a silly story-line that freezes Gabrielle and Xena in a mountainside is created to freeze them in time until Xena's daughter is of age. Though much of the season is lost to the baby-storyline, there are some great and pivotal episodes from the 5th year. "Chakram" reintroduces us to Xena's power and creates her weapon meant to later kill the Grecian Gods. "Siege on Amphipolis" was Lucy's welcome back episode after giving birth, throwing her right back into the fight with a bang and little love scene with Ares. And though the "frozen in time" idea is a bit hard to swallow, the juicy idea of Xena's daughter growing to be an Ares protege and champion for Rome is hard to resist (though Livia is poorly acted by Adrienne Wilkinson). While season 5 has its lumps, it redeems itself as well. Gabrielle remains a powerful force throughout, continuing her education and growth under Xena's waddling, pregnant tutelage. That, and some kick ass episodes near the end of the season, can help us overlook "Married with Fishsticks"....that and the desperate need to do so anyway.

I love the show xena warrior princess, so because I already bought season six I felt I should also get season five. And I am really happy with the purchasing I've made on the season six dvd set as well as the season five dvd set, as each episode brings great joy in my life. I especially love the strong friendship between the two main characters and the stunts they perform. I also like the musical episode Lyre, Lyre hearts on fire and my other all favorite episode on season five is seeds of faiths and kindred spirtis as they just moved me so much. The only thing I disliked about the Dvd set, was that when I recieved it the first dvd was scratched and wouldn't play in my laptop or on my dvd player. But with many fixing and a new dvd player I bought I was finally able to play the first disk ... I love the show xena warrior princess, so because I already bought season six I felt I should also get season five. And I am really happy with the purchasing I've made on the season six dvd set as well as the season five dvd set, as each episode brings great joy in my life.
