Nazi land in England to KILL Churchill~ VERY good~
PLOT:Nazis disguised as Polish soldiers land in England to KIDNAP Churchill~ Paratoopers headed by Colonel Steiner (Michael Caine) plan to land in England to kidnap Winston Churchill~ mastermind of plot is Robert Duvall as Nazi "idea man' who hopes to negotiate a peace more favorable to Germany~~ the Nazis complete with Polish Allied Uniforms land~helping them is a 5th columnist~ Donald Sutherland~ as Devlin~ complete with Irish Accent~ when a solider is KILLED saving a girl from drowning~ the town folk soon realize they are 'Nazis'~ now they must hold the town prisoner in the local church and wait for Churchill to arrive~ some dark humor is the American Colonel Pitts~(Larry Hagman) who has NO battle experience~ decides HE can capture the Spies~ to further his own lagging career~ ... Great adventure story, unusual heroes.
I like this movie quite a bit. I know much about the allied side of the war, but I am also interested on the other side, what made honorable and great soldiers fight for a despicable police state. This is one of those stories. The story is about an honorable soldier who runs afoul of the authorities when he tries to save a young person from the concentration camps, he is actually put on death row, unless, he takes this mission, practially a suicide mission. So he's damned if he does and damn if he doesn't. It is surprising up to the very end. If I might have something against it, would be the inclusion of the Irish man sub-plot, which fills in the story of the enemies that England had, within and without, the conclusion to his story is mushy and ambivalent. It stars a young Michael ... I like this movie quite a bit. I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid, and when I found it in Ebay, at a very reasonable price, I snapped it up, and watched it with my kids, to show them that it doesn't take much to get caught up in the web of an evil empire, kinda explains why a lot of people voted Republican, but maybe that's another story.

The Eagle Has Landed, (Movie 1976.)
I remember back in the 1970's as a kid, what a huge best-seller this novel was. It seemed like every place you turned in public, someone could be seen carrying it around. Naturally, as with most popular novels, Hollywood would eventually try to jump on it's bandwagon. The movie is also excellent. This is a great, and convincing spy-thriller, set during World War 2, about a German plot to kidnap Winston Churchill. The thing I like about it, is it's told from the German perspective. The characters are presented as realistic human beings, with heroic and nobile qualities like mercy, compassion, loyalty, and self-sacrifice; not the PC.,stereo-typical, evil, heartless, fanatical, Nazi-bogeymen. Some people might find that broken mold disturbing, but I feel it's realistic and refreshing. And ... I remember back in the 1970's as a kid, what a huge best-seller this novel was. If you like good war drama, this is one for you. The characters are portrayed strongly with feeling. The actors meld together to bring the story to life. And brings out a little known historical fact about Churchill.
