This is my first new receiver in many years and oh my how things have changed. My old receiver is a Carver 5.1. This receiver is somewhat complicated to get up and running and then to use regularly, but it gives you great sound for the effort. To be honest there is a simpler setup, but why do that when you can have fun with the advanced setup. I never tried the basic setup method so it may have been a lot easier. I am having a great deal of fun just discovering things I do not yet know about this receiver. I do wish there was a way to adjust bass and treble without so much hoop jumping, but I will get used to it. All in all I am in love with my new toy and it has helped identify many problems I had with my system, such as speakers out of phase. It has made me a happy camper.
awesome receiver-sounds much better than my previous Onkyo TX-SR-875 . my tv/movies/games have never sounded so good, especially the surround speakers. generates much less heat than the onkyo (this matters if you have it inside a cabinet). On screen menu easy to figure out. My Onkyo was in the shop a few times so I hope this one is more reliable. Be aware if you want to use bluetooth that you will have to buy an additional $50-70 piece. So far I am glad I bought this pioneer vsx53 and I would recommend it.
The only issue I have had with this reciver is that I can not get the HDMI to function. Not a big deal as I just using for sound only.

Disappointing, I really like this system. Found that it is a factory processor issue.
