  • Important book

Yes, it's true. This probably is the most important book ever written. The impact this book has had on language, culture, and freedom is huge. Terms like Big Brother and Thought Police and doublethink all trace their roots back to this book. If one were to read this book with the evening news in mind they would realize that it's not much of a stretch to say that this book is in many ways prophetic. You cannot walk in parts of England without government cameras following your movement. The USA is headed in that direction and the average joe is more than willing to give up freedom for "Safety". And what about the saying "War Is Peace" Kind of sounds like what our leaders are telling us now. "Freedom Is Slavery" and "Ignorance Is Strength" also sound eeriely familier. This is a MUST READ. 5 ...

  • Great story, mediocre book

Great story, mediocre book. 1984 is a modern classic, which I've finally gotten around to reading. Very disturbing and pertinent to today's political world. The copy I bought (I wanted a hardbound volume) was pretty lame. It was essentially a poorer quality paperback that hard covers were put on. The worst part was there were no margins to speak of (maybe 1/4 inch)and very tightly pressed type, which made it painful to read. Perhaps that's the way Big Brother wanted it.

  • Small book.

Size of the book is small. Condition is pretty good. I was not thrilled with the small size of it. Not great to display.
