Be a mobster, claw your way to the top and take control of New York. Quick review: An excellent buy. Indepth story, excellent graphics, great game play and enough missions to keep you busy for a long time. Fans of "The Godfather" movie won't be disappointed, the game is faithful to the original story. Fans of GTA will enjoy the familiar feel of the game. Want more info? You become an unofficial enforcer and work you're way up the ranks. The final goal is to take control New York. Along the way, you must deal with rival families, the police, and the FBI. The extensive map allows you to explore all of New York from the beginning. You can work toward taking control a section at a time (Little Italy, Hell's Kitchen, ect), or take a little bit of every area. Helpful mobsters give you tips on bribing the police, hijacking trucks, and methods to use. The senior members of the Family will give you missions as your respect level grows. Some of the graphics are repeated over and over (flower shop, bakery, hotels, cars), but the city is excellently rendered. You can easily get lost or wind up turning the wrong corner and being ambushed on a dead end street if you don't make use of your map. While the grame draws on the themes of the Grand Theft Auto games (random violence, steal cars, run over people) it is not a copy. The elements it borrows from the game add to the over all game play. This game is an excellent buy with weeks of game play no matter how good you are at video games.Read full review
I bought The Godfather: The Game off of eBay and I couldn't wait to see what it had in store. I had heard it was a good game so I thought why not get it? When I first started playing it, it seemed like a really good game and it really is. Just like the Grand Theft Auto games, you can carjack people, shoot and kill people with a variety of weapons ranging from a baseball bat to a tommy gun and go on missions given to you by different characters. Unlike GTA, you have to extort businesses, buy out rackets, destroy rival family compounds and seize all warehouses and hubs. Doing these will give you the title of 'Don of New York City.' People reading this might be confused about the Don of NYC part. You see, in this game, you start off as an Outsider for the Corleone family. Doing missions and gaining respect will eventually promote you to an Associate and so on and so forth. There are 7 ranks in this game: Outsider, Associate, Soldier, Capo, Underboss, Don and Don of NYC. The game has characters from the original movie like Vito Corleone, Michael, Sonny, Freddie, Tessio, Clemenza, etc. In fact, some of the characters are even voiced by the actors who portrayed them in the original movie. Marlon Brando, before his death, recorded the dialogue to reprise his character Vito Corleone. James Caan also provided the voice for Sonny Corleone. But Al Pacino is absent from this game. For some reason, he refused to provide the voice for his famous character, Michael Corleone. Famous events that happened in the movie (Luca Brasi's murder, Paulie Gato's murder, etc.) are featured in the game and are beautifully done, I should say. The graphics and sound quality on this game are fantastic. The only problem I have with this game is that it's a bit too short. Excluding the prelude (which is like the tutorial), there are only 17 missions you have to complete. However, there are side missions you must complete to become Don of NYC, like hit contracts, bombing rival family warehouses, etc. I've made the title of Don of NYC in just over 24 hours, which is pretty short for a game. But overall, I do recommend this game. In my opinion, the Grand Theft Auto games are better but I still enjoyed playing The Godfather, nevertheless. 4/5 overall.Read full review
I recently purchased a PS2 game console and wanted to try out some role-play type games. The Godfather is certainly an intense role-play strategy game. Great graphics, but very difficult to grasp. I rated it a "Good" as the graphics and interface are excellent. However, if you really want to play this game to its full extent, you will have to spend a good amount of time studying the moves, characters, maps, and various controls to have any successful experience at all. In comparison, the game 24 is also a great role-play strategy game and is easy enough to play right from the beginning without any study of moves, maps or characters - you are either successful in a mission or not - Great game!
This game is fantastic! If you are a fan of the movie, you will love the way the game puts you into the storyline of the movie. The graphics are great, the animations are very smooth, and the voice acting is awesome. Much better than most of the other games in this genre. I was most impressed with the shooting mechanics in this game, it is extremely solid and a lot of fun to use. It was a little cumbersome at first, specially if you are used to Grand Theft Auto like myself, but once you get used to the controls you'll love it. I was however dissapointed with the limited number of vechiles and driving them is not the best aspect of the game. The game has lots to do, is a lot of fun to play, and it gets very addicting...every quality a great game should have!
What you do in the game In this game you design your own character at the start and play through the game as him, even though your character wasn't in the movie you still play major parts from it. Note: You really need to have seen the film to understand the game. Graphics The graphics in this game are really good (not including cutscenes as the graphics are usually good on them) life-like people walk the streets and each individual person even has their own name. Weapons also have good graphics. Main characters in the game have extra, detailed features and look even better than civillians. Each city has good graphics like the buildings etc. Though shops are heavily recycled. You will get used to it. The cars graphics aren't really good as you can't see through the windows. They have a cartoonish look to them. The cars are the thing in the game that stopped me giving the graphics 10 points in this review. Gameplay The gameplay is quite good, though not the best, the best thing is extorting shopkeepers and forcing them to give you protection money, thats if they don't give you it when you ask them nicely at the start, Sometimes you can push shopkeepers past their limit when extorting them and they will fight back hard. The freestyle fighting is cool at the start but gets boring when you have played the game long enough. The special gun moves are the same with the freestyle fighting, fun at the start then boring. Also the game is to easy, there isn't really a hard mission in the game. The cars are also a major problem, they actually are like a 1940's car, too slow can't turn properly etc. br / Note: To change your characters clothes you have to gain money save the game, load it and then select ' Go to the tailor shop' . Other comments The game is compaired to GTA, but that isn't really true, the only thing the games have in common is the map at the bottom right of the screen and the fact the the triangle button gets you in a car. I bought the game for £29.99 which is about $49.99, $59..99 in the US , I'm not sure bu It's not worth that, I think it's only worth about £20.00 which it is at a games shop near me at the moment. This game definetly isn't for everyone, I mean I love free roaming, random killing games but this game didn't give me a thrill, so you should definetly rent it first. But, I suppose it's still a good game for some.Read full review
