Very Good with a few Minor Quirks
We have two of these. My reason for preferring this design is that, instead of a removable battery cartridge, it has a battery door where batteries can be inserted directly without having the aggravation of dealing with a removable battery tray that could get lost or damaged thus rendering the whole works useless. SEE UPDATE BELOW_09-April-2022 That being said, both of my units are plagued with the same two problems. 1. There is no spring pressure to push open the battery door when the door latch is released. Sometimes, tilting the door toward the ground is enough for gravity to open it. Other times, I must catch the edge of the door with something slim (knife blade, credit card, etc.) to flip it open. 2.The battery latches are very weak and do not hold the batteries firmly ... Almost every time I load fresh batteries, I must wiggle and fiddle with them until they make contact and it finally recognizes both of them. Once the batteries both make contact, I have never yet had them lose contact. I am going to try and remedy both of my problems with one minor alteration; I am going to attach small coil springs inside the battery door such that the springs push against the batteries. This spring pressure will push the batteries tighter against the contacts; and, the spring pressure will also push the door open when the latch is released. The two problems I noted are very minor indeed and not enough to prevent me buying this exact same grip in the future. UPDATE_09-April-2022: Fixing my two minor gripes was much simpler than I expected and at zero investment. Something else I bought came with some very squishy foam-rubber adhesive pads of about 1/4-inch diameter. I applied two of these pads on the inside of the battery door, each centered over a battery. Now, when I close the door, the squishy pads press the batteries snugly against the contacts; and, when I trip the door release, the door springs open, even when pointing straight up. This was a lot simpler and probably works a lot better than the coil-spring fix I had in mind. The advantage of having a battery door instead of a removable battery cartridge far outweighs the minor problems I described. Otherwise, the Meike grip looks, feels, and operates like quality. I cannot see any other more expensive grip doing the job any better. Try another grip, one with the removable battery cartridge, and the first time you have to reload batteries quickly under field conditions, you will see why I much prefer having the battery door.
