Season 1 of "Six Feet Under"
The characters show compassion, hope, sorrow, and desire just to name a few of our human feelings. These characters show us ourselves, our weaknesses and strengths, true to life. We feel a bond with these ordinary people and their everyday struggles with their lives. We understand. We appreciate. We enjoy their story.

If you're looking for depth and honesty, start here. But if you don't have time in your life to commit to five seasons of episodes, don't even start, because you will be hooked. The world of the Fishers is one that few have ever had a glimpse of (until now) and it revolves around death. At times there are gruesome scenes of mutilated bodies, perhaps walking and talking in people's imaginations, but there seems to be a line that isn't crossed. I never considered turning off the show, and I'm somewhat sensitive to gore. But in general, an appreciation for life is the result of each episode, as well as a reminder that death could be around the bend so you better do good and treat people well. I'm a better person because of watching this program, and how many TV shows can you say that about?? There is really very little I can say that will do justice to how great this series is...but one more thing...the acting is TERRIFIC. I'm also very sensitive to bad acting! If I am reminded that I'm watching something that is not real, I turn it off or change the channel. That virtually never happened with this show, which is par for the course for HBO's superior series. You will not regret buying this season, or any season, of Six Feet Under.

Absolutely great show
I've watched all 63 episodes of "Six Feet Under" and I loved every one of them. Each one was a gem, some were emeralds, some were pearls (of wisdom), and some were as precious as the Hope Diamond. There were moments that were so incandesent in their brilliance that I was awestruck--the answer Nate gives to a distraught client who asks "Why do people have to die?", the conversation between Nate and an old biker chick whose husband was killed while riding his hawg to a department store to play Santa (I watched it over and over again and it was just as good the fifth and sixth and seventh times I watched it), the verbal catfight between Brenda, Nate's living wife, and Lisa, Nate's dead wife (the living talk with the dead frequently in SFU); David's incredibly intense carjacking incident that ... I've watched all 63 episodes of "Six Feet Under" and I loved every one of them. Each one was a gem, some were emeralds, some were pearls (of wisdom), and some were as precious as the Hope Diamond. And what can we say about Claire? Claire is...well, you're just going to have to watch to understand how special Claire is. You're going to have to watch all five seasons to understand that. Now, I have to warn you that if you're offended by foul langauage, nudity, casual and/or homosexual sex, drug use, people being killed in strange and nasty ways, and mental illness, "Six Feet Under" may not work for you. Seasons one and two and large protions of season three are the best parts of the series but I think seasons four and five suffer because they must be compared with the brilliance of the seasons that preceeded them. Seasons four and five felt a little...soap opera-ish at times. But then we meet Joe. Joe is a sweet, kinda normal guy (normal is not normal in Six Feet Under) who falls in love with Brenda. Too bad Joe isn't Nate and never will be. And, just like in real life, Joe gets screwed over. Sorry Joe. Sometimes bad things happen to nice people, ya know? Season five, and the series, is capped off with the 63rd and final episode "Everybody's Waiting." This follows the gut-wrenching episode titled "Ecotone" which pulls the carpet out from under you and lands you on your face. But "Everybody's Waiting" brings redemption and hope for the future which is kind of amusing given that the point of the series is that there IS no future because death is always lurking in the shadows. Death from a bad LSD trip, death from a defective elevator, death from a ball of "blue ice" falling from the sky, death from a bus hitting a hearse. Yep, "Six Feet Under" is about death. It uses death to talk about life. It uses death to show how wonderful life is. If you haven't guessed by now, I really enjoyed sharing the lives of Nate, David, Claire, Ruth, Brenda, Billy, Keith, Rico, and the rest of the characters. "Six Feet Under" is great story telling and it just may be the best TV I've have ever watched.

Six Feet Under is sheer genius. Now that this show is off the air, it's totally raised the bar for what I now consider good television. If you haven't seen it, you should get all five seasons (with one and two being the best). People steer away from the show because it's about death, I know. However, the show is actually about life and the importance of the choices we make while we here. The characters see death each day as part of how they make a living and they don't fear it--they fear living their own lives. The clients that they serve in their funeral proceedings include murderers, hate crime victims, porn stars, misanthropes, war veterans and even children, who each represent tragic situations or fears that render each character inert. Each episode will have you glued to the ... Six Feet Under is sheer genius. Now that this show is off the air, it's totally raised the bar for what I now consider good television. When first collecting “six feet under” series 1 was VHS. Then I switched to DVD for seasons 2-5. Years later I am so happy to get Season 1 in DVD. It is i “like new condition” and completes my set. Thank you!
