  • Great book but some some questions with theology

I can say that there are very few authors I have read who have so been able to capture the mind of hebrew teachings within the ministry of Christ. Bell offeres a fresh perspective on what it can look like by following the way of Jesus. I do have some questions about the basis of his theology in areas where he claims things like the virgin birth are no longer necessary to essential Christian doctrines. Seems like he attempts to lead with the pragmatic instead of the theological. I can't say enough of how Rob's teaching has challenged me to learn what it is to just follow Jesus my Rabbi, but I think at times he leaves to much room for bad theology to form which overtime will even turn into bad practice. What I can say that has challenged me is the idea that "Love Wins"...

  • This is a Must-read!

This is a great book for Christians and those who don't claim to be Christians alike. It gives you a lot to think about. It doesn't set out to answer all your questions, but instead causes you to come up with more. But it does help you to make sense of them and come to some conclusions. For me, it helped me have an even greater appreciation for the Bible than I already had after having read it regularly for 20 years. Rob Bell talks about binding and loosing, explaining what it means and more importantly what it means for us today. We have to be willing to wrestle with God's Words in community, "to wade in and struggle with the text - the good parts, the hard-to-understand parts, the parts we wish weren't there." The subtitle is: Repainting the Christian faith. Suggesting that those ...

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN BOOKS OF OUR TIME!

Velvet Elvis is one of the greatest books I have ever read. It is a book that allows you to safely question the Christian faith without destroying your beliefs in the process. It takes you to a place in your mind and heart you might not have been before, but a part of you has always thought about. I reccomend all who are looking for a unique way of viewing Christianity to read this book and even those who, though they are O.K. with the traditional Christian process, but are searching for more to also read this book, you will not be disapointed! After reading this book I think you will come to realize that we can't just sit back and be Sunday Christians, that we need to continue to question and repaint the fiath. That we need to understand what it means to be a Christian right here and ...

  • A life-changing book!

Rob Bell does an excellent job of presenting a new look at the way church is being done. Everything that he says, he backs up with scripture and historical facts that validate his point. The ideas are very compelling and will for sure make you sit back and wrestle with the way you view church and following after Christ. I would say that it is a must read for anyone that calls themself a disciple of Christ!
