A good reminder of the insidious nature of addiction and that the work to stay free of whatever addiction one struggles with never ends. It’s light so the lessons are more palpable for most but the lessons are still there. I bought one for my dvd library and another to loan out.

Drug or alcohol use is much more rampant in today's society. Peer pressure, work pressure, pressure to "have it all." I'd say that 2 out of every 10 people in my office could be described as being like Gwen and Jasper. What I enjoyed about this movie was the end message...that there are other choices you can make...healthier choices, happier, more responsible choices other than using drugs and alcohol to cope with stress and your life's history. I thought a good Bullock performance; funny and serious. Worth a look.
I saw a YT clip of this movie with Sandra and Steve Buschemi and was intrigued. This movie is a unique balance of humorous interplay amongst much of the cast and significant drama--tackling a more serious, varied set of life issues. I think it does a nice job of balancing the two and resolves with some brief but accurate commentary on so-called friends who will keep a person in a vicious cycle. I think it is one of her best films (if you are an SB fan which I am) and Buschemi has got to be the best actor around because you just do not question his depiction of the character.I saw a YT clip of this movie with Sandra and Steve Buschemi and was intrigued. A Must See! Brilliant portrayal of what addiction is really like.
Sandra Bullock is very believable in the role of an alcoholic coming to rehab. The film injects the excuses and the attitudes of denial and rebellion. It also shows the support that AA brings to recovering persons and shows those who wrestle with their addictions trying to recover.
