About this product

Product Information

The StreetPilot GPs ColorMap takes up where its sister product left off by boasting a razor-sharp, high-resolution, 16-color display for easy map reading. ColorMap works in an auto, truck, or van.Designed primarily for the automobile, the ColorMap improves on the StreetPilot's basemap information by adding exit information for the federal interstate highway system that lists available services such as food, lodging, and service stations. It also contains a reference basemap showing Interstate, U.S., and State highways, plus rivers and lakes in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with main arterial streets shown in metropolitan areas. The ColorMap is compatible with GARMIN's complete line of downloadable MapSource CD-ROMs. When paired with the MapSource MetroGuide USA CD-ROM, the ColorMap will store 8 to 128 megabytes of downloaded CD-ROM information at a time depending on the size of the cartridge you use in the unit.

  • Garmin Street Pilot Colormap

I bought a used StreetPilot ColorMap about 3 years ago and it has worked extremely well. My only issue has been that the battery power function sometimes quits but that has not really been a problem as I only use it in the car. I suggest the optional memory card programming cord. It's easier than hooking up the unit. Memory card size will depend on your use. I found the 128 held enough for each of my vacation trips. The bean bag mount also works much better than I thought it would. I have never needed to hard mount the unit. The screen is easy to view in the day and the reverse colors in the night mode also work well. Perhaps my favorite part is how quickly it recalculates a route and gives you new directions if you get off course. The original MapSource software (4.1) worked well for ...

  • Garmin StreetPilot III review

This unit would probably be rated good to excellent for its GPS abilities when it first came out but now It's main strength is its cost (compared to similar units). It's slow. You could be past your turnexit if used in congested areas. It does not learn....even updates make the same mistakes (No way to tell it a better or desirable way). If you're familiar with the area you'll notice it will sometimes take you the long way around even with "shorter distance" option selected. Don't misunderstand, It will get you where you want to go; So in places where you're unfamiliar you'll thank your lucky stars you have it. The newer, more expense units allow desirable routes, and will give (audibly) the name of the upcoming street oad to make your turn.....nice! I can live the shortcomings of the ...

  • Garmin Streetpilot III

This is the 4th GPS unit I have owned and by far the best. The Streetpilot III by Garmin is very easy to operate and runs seamlessly to make any road trip more enjoyable. Garmin discontinued this item a couple years ago, but still backs it and provides software updates which makes it very affordable. Programming is easy, just load the maps and go. No reason to load routes or locations on your desktop anymore; it can all be done in the car, which gets you on your way sooner. There are several options which do need to be considered BEFORE your purchase of this unit. I would not opt for less than a 128MB data card. I live in Colorado and my 128MB card will hold my state and the surrounding states, but that's it. I'm sure the terrain has something to do with the limitation, but I ...

  • The technology was advanced when the unit was released

Garmin produces really nice GPS units. Some people give this unit bad reviews failing to realize that the unit was first released in the late 1990's (I think). I have had this unit for almost 6 years now and love it. I know the limitations of the unit, and I know the purpose. Yes you still have to plan the route and enter it into this unit (or on your computer), and yes you are limited to the amount of storage you can have on the Garmin storage cards, but expecting the unit to function like the brand new GPS navigation units is unrealistic. That is like comparing a computer you buy to today to a Pentium 133 MHz. I love this GPS unit. I can search the map when I am lost, and although it may take me a tad longer, I am willing to use some intelligence in order to still navigate the ...

  • Garmin Streetpilot ColorMap GPS

I bought this second hand Garmin StreetPilot 3 GPS for the features of this model and it is as good as new. This model has auto routing and voice prompts, tracking, additional maps and routes can be downloaded from PC onto external memory etc. which makes it a great GPS for 4x4 adventurers but it is also handy for finding your way around cities. A new GPS with similar features such as the 276c will set you back in excess of $1000,00 in RSA but i got this for a mere fraction of the new price. A great buy indeed!!
