    Best on the market

    This is my third Maglite 2-Cell D Flashlightin 25 years, and first LED. They are excellent - good illumination, dependable, durable and reasonably priced. Have not bought any other brand since my first purchase 25 years ago.

    Maglite XL50 has a nicer beam and is way more compact.

    I love Maglites, but this is nowhere near a high performance light. This is more of a "leave it in the utility closet for a power outage" kind of light that isn't made in China and runs on the D cell batteries I have laying around, which is exactly what I bought it for. High performance lights with rechargeable lithium ion cells have a high self discharge rate so they aren't ideal for emergency use, and I can't leave an extra pack of batteries around. I would not recommend this light if you need something compact or light for EDC, a tool bag, or walking the dog. The Maglite XL50 is much smaller and lighter, runs on Alkaline, Rechargeable, or Lithium Primaries, and has comparable light output. Sure, the runtime isn't as long, but it makes a lot more sense to carry a few extra AAA batteries ...

    Great size and weight for a protection flashlight

    I like having one of these near the front or back door. The weight of solid metal feels like i have a small club as a weapon and a super bright flashlight if something goes bump in the night. The rubber switch is super easy to flick on quickly and everything is waterproof. And rotating the head adjusts the beam quickly. (The 3D cell is heavier and longer for a more serious cudgel-like weapon)

    A nice flashlight, but not 100% reliable.

    A nice flashlight, bright light projects from it, but the switch seems finicky. Sometimes the switch works, other times, not. It was new in sealed package. Should work better than that.
