About this product

Product Information

On the first anniversary of the death of George Harrison--November 29, 2002--a group of his friends paid tribute to the Quiet Beatle by staging an all-star concert featuring the songs of Harrison, from his days with the Fab Five as well as his long and underrated solo career and work with the Traveling Wilburys. Also included were songs written for and about Harrison, from Ringo Starr's evocative "Photograph" to Ravi and Anoushka Shankar's inspirational "Arpan." Among the outstanding performances, held in London's Royal Albert Hall, were Eric Clapton and Jeff Lynne playing "I Want to Tell You," Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers blasting out "Taxman" and "I Need You," Paul McCartney chiming in with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "For You Blue," and fifth Beatle Billy Preston taking on "My Sweet Lord." Clapton and McCartney's duet on "Something" is one of the many highlights. The elaborate concert, directed by David Leland and including backstage behind-the-scenes interviews with some of the participants, also featured appearances by the Boys and Girls Choir, the English Chamber Choir, the London Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Monty Python crew, just to change the mood. Harrison's musician son, Dhani, also shows up--his resemblance to his father is remarkable. Proceeds from the film and DVD release will benefit Harrison's Material World Charitable Foundation.

    Excellent Tribute to George Harrison

This cast of All-Stars could not have given a better heartwarming tribute to their friend George Harrison. It is so professional, and each singer and musician gave their ALL! We have listened to it numerous times, and certainly recommend to lovers of great musicians! We do watch #3 and 4 the most, as the first are from India, and we relate more to the latter. Eric Clapton did an amazing job of bringing it all together, along with Olivia Harrison and their son. It was such an All-Star cast, including, former Beatles--Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, and many who worked closely with George Harrison. I gladly give it 5 stars as it is EXCELLENT!

  • Great Sentimental Tribute

A great sentimental tribute to George Harrison organized by Olivia and Dhani Harrison with help from Eric Clapton. The concert was to benefit George's charity Material World Charitable Foundation. The music was mostly George's and the Beatles. Nearly one half of the performance was from Ravi Shankar and his daughter with an Indian orchestra. There are many talented performers at this event. It is well produced and performed. It is a fun and very enjoyable event.

  • This concert was a blessing. Thank you, George, Ringo, Paul, Eric , Dhani, Klaus, Ravi, Anoshka

George and all of these great people on the DVD have been great gifts to us all, but I think George started the ball rolling on so many charitable organizations. I was happy to see most of the artists he has been engaged with for the past 45-50 years.

  • The Best Tribute Concert of All Time.

On the one-year anniversary of George Harrison's death, all his friends and family came together to play a tribute concert to him. MC'd by Eric Clapton, it is a veritable who's who of classic rock legends. It starts with some Indian music symphonic pieces led by Ravi Shankar's daughter - then it goes into George's friends covering his favorite songs. If you like the Beatles, or 1906's / 1970's classic rock, you will love this DVD.

  • Great entertainment

I first saw this on you tube and decided that I had to have it for myself on dvd. It is a wonderful tribute to former Beatle the late George Harrison, celebrating his life and music at the Royal Albert Hall in London. With super performances by Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr,Tom Petty, Monty Python, Joe Brown and others. I didn't really care for the first half which was the Indian music by Ravi Shankar & his daughter but that is only because it is just not my kind of music but other than that, this 2 dvd set is so worth seeing. I have watched it over and over again. I don't believe that I will ever get tired of it. This is not to be missed.
