Graphic exposition of a terrible time in Oklahoma.

Burns does a excellent job of describing/showing the results of a 7 year drought on plowed farmland. The soil loses it ptotective crust and blows away. Hopefully, I have given specific facts and followed the rules as ordered by eBay.

  • Just phenomenonal work - Superior in bringing you into the experience.

I am a great fan of Ken Burns and his work. My mother grew up in Oklahoma, and suffered from the effects of the dust bowl, even though she lived in the eastern part of the state, Miami, Pitcher and Quawpaw area. I grew up hearing about the Dust Bowl era, depression and what it meant to live in that time. I have a great appreciation for what I have learned from my mother and grandmother. Seeing this DVD about the Dust Bowl and what happened then put me there, I felt the experience to the degree of what I had heard, now I could see it - I highly recommend to anyone to see this documentary about the Dust Bowl. Mr. Burns has a very acute vision and puts you in the experience. Louis Spadaro son/grandson of Dust Bowl survivors.

  • Very Well Done

Ken Burns seems to turn anything he does a show on into gold. this one i have my own, and got this as a gift for someone who is interested in learning more about the Dust Bowl. It is so intriguing, keeps you absolutely glued to the seat to witness what folks had to deal with in this country, the hardships look unbearable and yet they found ways to survive. they really should show this in classrooms.

  • Dust bowl horrors

I had read Eagan's book Worst Hard Times and wanted to see the documentary to follow up. The pictures were horrifingly real and brought the book to life. The dust bowl was the worst environmental disaster that humans have caused on this planet.

  • Lots of good photos and movie reels of the reality of the situation.

I feel that this documentary is being written in hindsight. At the time there were no real scientific studies on how the land was fragile, etc., and blaming the FARMERS is not constructive. They were doing what they do best, which was producing food. Not everyone can do that. As a farmer's daughter I understand the endeavors. The damned government was pushing the farmers to grow crops for food. I felt bad that the livestock and people suffered badly.
