This film deserves a 2/5 - below average. Yet it so exemplifies the below average category, it rises (or sinks, depending on your perspective) to new lows. Does Dennis Quaid actually act in The Day After Tomorrow? Yes, but he acts like Dennis Quaid in "Flight of the Phoenix"... or perhaps Dennis Quaid in "Switchback"... or perhaps Dennis Quaid in any number of Dennis Quaid-esque B-movies. Stereotypical lone ranger acting is just one of many reasons to see this film. As for Jake... well, let's just say no one mentioned 'Oscar.' In addition to mediocre acting, the movie is... well, it's just plain bad. It is predictable, the dialogue is cliche, and you can tell when certain key characters are about to die (ie, the "oh yeah, I recognize that actor! What's his name? It's not in caps by the title - oops! I guess that's because he's only in the film 25 minutes"). You can even predict how the extras decease before they are offed by the director. Yup, nothing new here. However, of all the reviews written for this film, no one mentions the most hysterical component: the CGI wolves. I won't ruin it for you. They are supposed to be menacing, but I couldn't stop laughing. Lie down in front of your tv, raise a sock puppet in front of the screen, and then growl. GRRR! You'll be ready to join the tundra terrors in no time. Like many multi-million dollar endeavors, this blockbuster went from action-adventure to comedy because it took itself so seriously. This precisely why I recommend it: the combined mediocrity of acting, the overplayed drama-at-every-turn-approach, and the predictableness of everything but the terrifying villains (which are unintentionally the most comedic members of this ensemble) is why this film acheives such brilliant lameness. Honestly, who almost drowns while talking on a payphone in the library? Does Jake really have to raise a freezing floor in the Classical Literature section, and if he did, would closing the double wooden doors actually help? It's these sort of ridiculous moments that make this film so outrageously funny. In trying to be a muscular blockbuster, this film becomes bloated with unexpected humor. The Day After Tomorrow loaded up on cream cheese instead of egg whites. Buy it. Watch it. Hate it and love it at the same time. Don't forget your sock puppet.Read full review
Very enjoyable film and story, moves at a very nice pace, very good special effects, has something to say about how we treat the Earth, can be a bit preachy! But all in all a good show with several taunt and exciting moments. Of note: there is a documentary called "The Science" which discusses the truth (as they see it) about global warming and climate changes. They say that if we don't change our habits we will kill our planet, maybe not the way that it is portrayed in the film but we could fully expect to see some serious changes in a decade. This documentary was made in 2004. Everything seems pretty much the same as it was 14 years ago. LOL!

This movie is disturbing in the fact it brings some thought to what might happen to the world with continuing theft of natural resources. With the almost quietness the movie starts with it surprises and excites you with the violence the world creates to equalize balance. Dennis Quaid give a strong performance with his character giving the audience a real treat with his determination to reach his son in New York. This movie is really extraordinary! When everyone is trapped in the storm, during the eye of the storm with it freezing anything instantly, you are forced to wonder what you would do in similar circumstances. When viewed for the first time, I ordered it from Pay-per-view and recorded it on video. Later I had moved some things and lost the video having only watched the movie once. A year and a half later, I still remembered the movie and its ability to affect me. I was determined to get the movie again, and found one within a reasonable price range.Read full review
This movie will have you seating on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. The special affects are "amazing." The cast are amazing. With a (possible) realistic story line. Your gonna find yourself, asking yourself- Wow, maybe I should reevaluate the way respect the environment?
Pertaining to global warming this was a bomb dynamite movie that you never get tired of watching it over and over again. I purchased it because it was a great movie but also because it had a 2nd. disc.
