The Sony MDR-ZX700 were originally made to sell for well over $100.00. Production quality and fit and finish are very good, with a heavy dependency on decent-quality plastics to keep the weight down. They are comfortable, although the earpads are not very thick. It doesn't appear the pads can be removed and replaced with thicker ones, but they are not terrible at all. They just could have been better. The cord cannot be unattached from the 'phones, which would have been nice, but the cord quality is very good...quite supple and not wiry or kinky...and the strain relief and connector are good, as well. The sound is detailed and articulate, and it is even throughout the spectrum. Some people will be disappointed at the lack of booming bass but these cans were intended for studio use so they were made to reproduce sound as close as possible to the original without coloring it with boosted bass. The MDR-ZX700 appears to be discontinued and it is occasionally available new for less than $50.00. It is well worth $40.00-$50.00 so if you see it at this price, grab it! Overall, good cans at a good price. Recommended.Read full review
