The Vivitar V3800N is a mechanical manual SLR film camera, as for 2011, you can still buy it brand new. I believe it's a fantastic camera. Besides being all manual, it's surprisingly easy to use. It doesn't really needs batteries to work, only for the very accurate meter. Like the Nikon FM10, this camera is made by Cosina. If you are looking for a new SLR manual camera, unless you already have a few Nikon manual lenses, it may be a smarter idea than the FM10 because the V3800N takes manual Pentax K lenses you can find everywhere for very cheap. Some features are: big and very bright viewfinder, 1/2000 maximum shutter speed, self timer, depth-of-field preview and multi-exposure. The only reason I don't give to this camera 5 stars it's because for what it cost new you can get other used excellent cameras like the Canon AE-1, Pentax K1000, Nikon FE or Nikon FM just to name few. But if you can buy this camera for about $50 that is what I paid for, it's a steal.Read full review

I bought this camera for my daughter to use in her college "intro to photography" class. It was exactly what she needed. It proved to be easy to learn to use and I would recommend it to others looking for a similar product.
I bought this camera for my college photography class. I absolutely love it. It is in perfect working order and I couldn't have asked for anything better. The price was exceptional as well.
