love lots of things exp makes good copies of photos and one can place small papers and print off of scrap papers and the printer is able to grip it and print it very carefully , but it fails within two to three years. this is not cool once it fails you are up the creek no one can help you unless you are willing to fork out another 300 to 500 for a new. I still love it over all but i can do my necessary printing on another cheaper printer. and plan to do my pjotos at walmart instead.
Owned the printer for less than six months. This unit replaced an older Canon all in one that just plain quit after four years of good service. Could be better Printer does not come with USB interface cable, annoying, but enough reason to drop one rating point. USB interface cables are not expensive, especially when purchased in lots of ten thousands. I would gladly pay an extra dollar for the printer to not have to rake around for an interface cable. USB is the ONLY way to interface this printer to a computer or LAN. If other Canon products come with an interface cable, why not the mid range printers? This was a greedy penny pinching decision made by Canon. No need for this Have not had to replace any ink cartridges yet due to low volume printing (print count) but understand the genuine OEM cartridges are proprietary and pricey. This greedy practice has become standard with Epson, HP and now Canon. These printers ARE NOT SOLD BELOW COST with the hopes of making money back with expendables. It is just corporate greed. Nobody in their right mind runs a business selling a product below cost, with hope to recoup the loss in another arena. Not intuitive I have used all functions of the printer more than once. Never got the scan to .pdf option to work without getting errors. This is merely annoying and not a printer or software installation defect that I am aware of. The feature rich options on this printer are not all intuitive, so be prepared to spend time with the instruction manual. Fault Fax has a tendency to hog the phone line even when set according to instruction manual. Could be a problem for some people sharing the fax with a voice line. The fax will latch and unlatch correctly most of the time, but not all of the time. Very good Print quality is very good from an inkjet in this price range (Sub $300 USD). The printed pages are consistently very good even when using the document feeder, which is rarely the case with other brands of printer. Although this printer does have a rather large footprint it is not a real estate hog. The design shape is attractive and the front Canon logo is prominent yet not overboard. Average Although Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One Inkjet Printer does pack a lot of features into one printer, it is not without fault or annoyances. When used as a SOHO printer it will do the job for which it is intended and that is the entire reason why we buy this type printer, convenience! If convenience means that running out to purchase over-priced replacement cartridges and a USB interface cable, then sitting down to read the manual, perhaps my rating might not be accurate.Read full review
This printer, though it has great quality prints, guzzles ink. We have been more frustrated at this printer than with any other printer we've ever owned (even dot matrix's!). When one ink cartridge runs empty, the printer essentially shuts down preventing you from evening using the scanner or the fax! It's a great feature for Canon because then they make sure you purchase more ink, but it stinks to have to leave a project mid-way, run to the store and buy an ink cartridge just to use a feature on the printer that doesn't even use ink! Not impressed.
I absolutely love this printer! The performance is excellent. Seperate ink tanks eliminate replacing the entire cartridge just because one color is empty. The two seperate paper feeds make it nice when switching from shipping labels to regular paper without having to change the type of paper. Saves a lot of room on the desk by eliminating the fax machine, copy machine, scanner and putting it all in one handy machine! Even has a silent mode on printing for late night work. I've tried other brands, but none has ever compared to the quality of Canon.
I got this exact printer for parts for a printer I already had exactly like it. The main reason I use it is for photos and making calendars. The print quality is phenomenal for both assuming that you use the correct type of paper. Being able to feed single sheets from the back is also really important for the thicker paper. It is fast too for printing photos, only a couple of minutes. For just printing text the sheets just fly out. It also has the type of ink cartridges that can be refilled. A great value for the money.
