Ebner-Eschenbach ist ebenfalls eine Uhrensammlerin, die ahnlich schoene, in der Erzahlung fachkundig beschriebene Stucke, selbst besitzt. Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, geborene Marie Freiin Dubsky, kommt am 13. September 1830 auf Schloss Zdislawitz bei Kremsier in Mahren zur Welt und stirbt am 12. Marz 1916 in Wien. Sie ist eine der bedeutendsten oesterreichischen Schriftstellerinnen. Ebner-Eschenbach hat noch zu Lebzeiten Erfolg und Geltung verzeichnen koennen, im Gegensatz zu anderen weiblichen Kollegen ihrer Zeit. In ihren Erzahlungen lassen sich oft Themen, Personen und persoenliche Erlebnisse wiederfinden, welche in autobiographischen Schriften und in ihren Tagebuchern aufgezeichnet wurden.
