CD purchase was perfect - no scratches, clean surface, plays flawless. Humble Pie sound great. Frampton on guitar plays excellent - riffs galore. Listened to this album over 30 years ago. Decided to take plunge and buy CD. Glad I did. Brings back a lot of memories. I'd recommend to any classic rock freak.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
God doesn't make bands like this anymore, and that is unfortunate. Thankfully, however, we have this and other Humble Pie records to lift our spirits. Steve Marriott died in a house fire in 1991. He was the leader and one of the main creative forces for The Small Faces and later, Humble Pie. He was a fine guitar player and an excellent songwriter. He was also one of the greatest Rock and Soul singers who ever lived. 'Rockin' The Fillmore' is not the be all/end all for Humble Pie (or for Steve Marriott, for that matter): they recorded several great albums- but it is a powerful and essential piece of the band's history and will give you a taste of what the band was about in a live setting. Heavy, Soulful Rockin'. Listen to the Pie's take on the Rolling Stones' 'Honky Tonk Women'... Incredible!Read full review
Why did I wait? Well, better late than never. Having heard under-the-table whisperings of Humble Pie through Peter Frampton's career, I decided to take a step back in time and get the CD...Months later, I'm still recovering in the Rock & Roll Critical Care Unit. This album will hit you HARD, FULL-ON, mercilessly. Want a comparison? Okay...harder than being the proverbial, scrawny 16-year-old skaterboy and dealing with the aftermath of telling your girlfriend's redneck, ham-fisted, 350-pound gorilla dad that you're the father of her unborn baby. Will that work? Steve Marriott...enough said. He simply rules the blues. He was born for it. He lived for the blues, died for the blues, a rocker through and through. No one will ever equal Steve, and that is fact. The Pie--with Frampton, Clemson, the late Greg Ridley and with Shirley--was and is the best rock/blues act this planet has ever seen, and ever will. Most albums tell you "For maximum effect, play this album at full volume". This one won't; It will simply urge you to do it on its own merit. Seriously, buy this album. You will NOT regret it.Read full review
Blues oriented rock came into its maturity in the 70's with long jam sets, Ray Charles covers, redone blues standards, and hard rocking anthems. We loved all of these styles, and the better they were played, the better we liked them. Nobody played a better live show than the Humble Pie. I saw them play live three times and they rank among the top ten shows I've seen in a career of attending hundreds of concerts. Steve Marriot's voice is the top set of pipes of any male rock performer, his sense of phrasing and fun loving stage presence were the best ever. As a band, these guys are the group that ruined a generation of wannabes with their solid chops and incredible energy. British rock at its best. I love this record, and the remastered digital version has much of the LP's noise and mud removed. Enjoy!Read full review
The Fillmore was home to The Cream, The Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Hot Tuna, and of course, Hendrix and Humble Pie. This is Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton at their best, for a long time, and not just on this particular album. The days are gone of good and great rock bands. Aerosmith is played, and there are no good concerts except Eric Clapton. The Allmans are dead without Dickey Betts, and it is just a matter of time before rock is dead. There will never be another Fillmore, Howard Stein's Academy of Music, and The Palledium. So I am glad to get this copy and listen to my hearts content. What I wouldn't give for some Hot Tuna from 1972-77 at the Academy of Music. Is anybody listening? I just wish Midnight Special and Don Kirschner's Rock Concert would release all the stuff now and the guys who bought Bill Graham's estate. I am just dying to hear the 11 minute edited version of Crossroads from Wheels of Fire.Read full review
