About this product

Product Information

Taking a more realistic approach to military combat than many of its contemporaries, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set on the fictitious Russian island of Skira, a target of acquisition by the Chinese PLA. Your mission, as a soldier in the U.S. Marine Corps, is to forcefully address the situation before full-scale war erupts between the two countries. How you achieve your objectives is up to you, with the game allowing you the freedom to decide on the best course of action in a wide-open world. Employ real-life military strategies, issuing commands to flank, assault, and suppress, while guiding your squad into buildings, adjusting formations, and reacting to an enemy that will alter its tactics in real time. You can also commandeer tanks, jeeps, attack helicopters, and many other vehicles to complete mission goals. Up to eight players can battle each other online in various team-oriented multiplayer modes.

  • Its uniqueness does offer a breath of fresh air!

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is something you don't see every day on consoles, and its uniqueness does offer a breath of fresh air amidst the myriad twitch and sci-fi shooters out there. This is one of the more realistic war games you'll find on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, with a sense of tension built out of life or death situations rather than over-the-top action. I had fun with Dragon Rising, despite the fact that it consistently showed a lack of polish through weak artificial intelligence, middle of the road presentation, and its fair share of bugs. 5.0 Presentation Don't come looking for bells and whistles, or even any cutscenes introducing a level. 7.0 Graphics A wide open world that occasionally looks underwhelming. 6.0 Sound Rarely will the gunfire or explosions pack the ...

  • Really friggin hard...

I like the realism of the game, trying to snipe people from a hundreds and hundreds of yards is awesome as you have to account for bullet drop which makes it challenging. What I find hard about it is that it doesn't save very often and it could have you walking several miles to get back to the point that you need to conquer. Should one lucky bullet happen to catch you in the face then its back to walking that 2 miles again. Which again is good/bad as its very real but very annoying, but it makes you try VERY hard not to get killed. All in all decent game...I haven't tried online play yet so I don't know what its even like.

  • Very Under-rated Game

This game may not have all the movie-length in game cut scenes or intricately detailed plot lines of other shooters, but it sure has been a good buy to me. If I had paid full price I probably would have been disappointed but for the 20 bucks I spent, I would have been hard pressed to find a better game. Just a good, quality game without all the extras. Reminds me of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.

  • Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Playstation 3

I bought this title inparticular because its still a fairly new one compared to some of the other games out there. I thought it was a military combat game like "call of duty" ....boyyy was i wrong ! Dont get mrong here its got the good graphics and all . Its just not a put the game in and jump into action game is all its really quite difficult to make any progress in it in my opinion. It is more along the line of "socom :navy seals"(in which i wouldve been better of buying instead) I have played the game twice since getting it a month ago. I wouldnt recommend buying if you are easily frustated . UNLESS you are the type of person that enjoys playing online.

  • Awesome game.

I decided to buy this game because it's been said that it is the hardest, most realistic fps game on the consoles. So far, this is true. There's a few glitches here and there, especially with the AI, but that's about the games only real flaw. The graphics are mediocre as well.. but you can't have everything. Overall, a great title for someone who's tired of mainstream CoD and Halo.
