Now actually being old enough to remember seeing and playing these games in an actual arcade gives me fond memories of those bygone days. To play the latest and the greatest, you had to go to an arcade. Nintendo and Sega had their 8-bit systems out and if an arcade game did port over to one (usually Nintendo since it utterly owned the console market at the time), the ports were far from arcade perfect due to the weaker console hardware. Wasn’t until the Genesis and SNES when arcade ports started to get closer to the real thing. When arcade game compilations started to surface during the PSOne and Saturn generation, it was the beginning of virtual perfect arcade ports. Unfortunately, arcades around that time were becoming shadows of their former selves mainly due to the increased power of the home consoles. The Arcade Party Pak brings 6 games that were popular during the late 80’s. A few had NES ports like Smash TV, Rampage, and 720, but they were no substitute for the real thing. The ports on the Party Pak are pretty close to the real thing. There might be some subtle differences, but unless you spent a fortune playing these games during their heyday, you probably won’t notice. It was surreal to actually be able to play these games on my TV instead of a noisy, crowded arcade. I think I actually started to hear all that ambient noise once I started playing them. As for recommending this game, it depends on the audience. There are some factors that would stop me. Unless you were actually old enough to play these games, many will find them mostly archaic and relics of a faded past. Nostalgia is the biggest selling point. Here in lies the problem with this particular compilation. If you got this when it first appeared on the PSOne, then you got your hands on some early emulation of these arcade games. Unfortunately, this came out over 14 years ago and all these games have appeared on other compilations on new consoles and on Xbox Live, Playstation Store, and Wii Shop. If this were 1999 and the Playstation was still the dominate console, I would definitely recommend buying the Arcade Party Pak. But since that was in the last millennium, you probably already have all or most of these on your current console or you can get them much cheaper in newer compilations that have many more games as well. The Arcade Party Pak is not bad by any means, but like the games it emulates, it comes from an era that has also faded into video game history.Read full review

Let’s party like it’s 1988. With the ARCADE PARTY PAK, you can do just that. Relive fond memories of six classic arcade games from the mid- to late-‘80s. Remember playing RAMPAGE and helping Kong, Lizzie, and Ralph knock down buildings? How about pulling off a 540-kick flip in 720? These memories and many more can be yours with the ARCADE PARTY PAK.
Got it in good time. Not all the games on the disk would play on my machine, but I only wanted it for Smash TV and that worked smashingly. All in all a good sale and I would buy from this person again.
