Different Wonka for a Different Time
Yes, VERY different Willy Wonka than original but of course there's no point in trying to recapture the Magic of a special thing. First adaption of this story was more timeless, even though the Disco/Funk music numbers are fun here they are marked references to the real world, betrays the fairy tale quality. Production value is great, Deep Roy is one of my all time favorite character actors, this film is a tremendous vehicle for his talents! Depp's Wonka seems to draw upon Michael Jackson for inspiration and He would be an amazing choice to play the character, but that's what is missing for me here.... Character. We don't really get to know the characters, except for Wonka, Charlie and the Oompa Loompas. The Heart & Soul of the original film just aren't here, but it's nearly impossible to ...
