The game is unique from most other titles, in that it allows the player to fly hovering craft above the surface of the track, traveling at incredible speeds that will leave any gamer breathless. Each race occurs with several other vehicles on the track, though the gameplay does not rest with simply beating the opponent. Each course is littered with numerous weapons and power-ups that can be used to help destroy, or otherwise delay, the enemy. In addition to the races against the CPU, there is the option for two-player races, which adds a bigger challenge and more replay value to the title. The included techno soundtrack is fast-paced and invigorating, helping pull the player right into the game.

The Futuristic Racer to Beat
Wipeout may not have invented future style reaching games but it set the bar pretty high. Even today it's tracks require speed and skill to get around.

Not quite as Easy as I'd hoped
I bought this game recently (2006) in order to complete my WipEout collection, because now I have every game in the series (including Pure for PSP). This, obviously, is the first WipEout game ever made. Compared to the 3rd one, which is insanely difficult due to an actual programming glitch (see my review of that game for more info), I thought this one would be significantly easier. However, my hope for a more "pick-up-and-play" style game was pretty much dashed. Now people will question my gaming skills, etc. for saying this, but yeah, you'll have to dedicate a little time into this game to get any real enjoyment out of it. It's an older game, yes, but don't discount the challenge it brings. If you're a fan of the WipEout series, this game is a must-own. The music is top-notch, the ... Wipeout for PlayStation 1= awesome, timeless
Great game, even so many years later. It's a challenge to fly the ship to music that is still cool- timeless game. Of course, the graphics are a bit dated but hey, the game is fun and who cares! My 7yr old loves it, and it's weird to watch him play the game I played so many years ago. Cool beans.

Wipeout playstation Back in the day 90's
I played this game when I was in high school. I Loved it!!! So, I purchased it for my five year old son...He plays it all the time. I like how the game give you total control of the aircraft. The music is great and the programming is awesome!!!!
