Rune Factory 2 combines the best elements of Harvest Moon with a traditional RPG format for very addicting gameplay. The characters are cute and thoughtfully-designed, providing a great hook for the slice-of-life style perfected by Natsume. Unlike other HM titles, the Rune Factory series is known for allowing a great deal more to do outside of farming, which can get monotonous after a few in-game years. Rune Factory 2 does not disappoint in this respect; outside of the traditionally-formatted first generation, one can choose to advance to the second, where the player embarks on a lighthearted journey through numerous dungeons. The only drawback to Rune Factory 2 is that it is overambitious-- the dev team stuffed it full of so many features that the game has difficulty running on a low-memory DS cartridge. While this is cleverly avoided throughout most of the game, areas that have more than four sprites on the screen (such as in the barn or during contests) lag horribly, and reading some signs can overload the cartridge to the point of crashing. While this is certainly distracting, it is only a minor annoyance in the long-run; Rune Factory 2 is enjoyable enough to make the player want to push through this small setback.Read full review
I love to play this game, not only do you do farm oreiented tasks but you can do missions for the towns people and kill monsters out in the dungeons. The characters all have voices for various parts of the games, some of them are a little weird sounding and repetitive but it was a big surprise when I first heard them. I bought the game because I saw another girl playing the game in class and it sounded cool. You play as two different characters in the game. The first part of the game you play as a young man who has lost his memory and stumbled into a town. You're given a farm on the outside of town to take care of. For that section of the game your main focus is farming, running missions, and building up relationships with the people in town. To progress for the second part of the game you'll have to get married to one of the girls in town. Once you're married and your child is born with a school built, your memory comes back and you leave. From that point you play as your child (male or female, it's your choice). For that part the game becomes more indepth with more leveling, and different areas to level up in. You can still do missions and build up relationships with other characters but your main focus is getting your father back. The game has great music, voice acting for the characters, multi faceted leveling and very enjoyable characters to play with. You even get to capture monsters who perform various tasks such as giving milk, eggs, wool, honey and some who do not produce products can be taken out into the dungeons for added protection while you fight. I'd recomend it to people who enjoy this kind of game. If I ever lost this game or it became damaged I would definetly buy it again.Read full review
Having played the first Rune Factory, I was expecting a good story from this game. I came in with high hopes and have thus far not been disappointed. The characters have more personality than they did in the first game, and now there are rival marriages! A new feature is the request board system. By going to the board at the plaza, you are able to accept requests from both marriage candidates and ordinary villagers. When you complete a request, you raise the requesters affection with you and, as you become friends with the townsfolk, more requests pop up! There is a small problem with this, though; you can finish almost all the requests in one day -- aside from repeat requests that never go away -- and so you can be left with nothing to do for a while unless you boost friendship quickly. Another new feature is the ability to play as your child. After the first generation, once you marry and have a child, you can play as either a female or male child and play-marry the other kids in the town. Despite these pros, there is one major con; the game lags pretty badly if there are a lot of people on-screen. It's not a big deal in the town, but if you get swarmed by monsters...well, that's not good. All in all, Rune Factory 2 is rather promising, and is worth renting if you are unwilling to buy it right away.Read full review
Game was fun to play, did have minor glitches. Maybe 3 screen freezes throughout it, so just save your game consciously. But I have always loved this series and the game play interesting 2nd is very unique to the rest of the series.

This is probably my favorite DS game in my collection due to all of its features and engaging storyline/gameplay and the soundtrack is also very well done. What makes this game so extraordinary is how it bunches a solid rpg experience with a farming sim seamlessly and you are able to even defeat enemies and hire them to keep your crops in shape while your away so you just need to harvest when you return home after adventuring for a while, also there is a dating sim element in the game where you can go on dates/get married, etc if that is your cup of tea. I highly suggest buying this if you aren't a twitchy fps type gamer and prefer slower paced games with alot of depth.
So I have the original Rune Factory and rarely do I sit down and play a game straight through nonstop. But with the original I played it for about a week straight and beat it. Now it could've been a bit longer, but it's the simple fact that it kept my attention so well that I couldn't put it down! I bought this game hoping it would improve on the first RF and it most certainly has! It's just as fun, if not more and I again can not put this game down. The game has many elements that are so unique and fresh that I just love. One neat thing is that this game spans 2 generations of characters. If you do well in the first generation of your character, after you get married and have a kid, your kid will grow up and you take his spot and play as him. That is just amazing as an idea. Another fun thing I enjoyed was the different tasks that you can do to help people. This game reminded me a little bit of Animal Crossing where you help people through the town get their items or do random things for them. The game can be repetitve and maybe boring to some? But Harvest Moon and games like it are just highly addictive to others. This game is great, if you loved the first one - definitely get this one. It's awesome! If you've never played Harvest Moon games, I'd grab a regular Harvest Moon game first, and then pick up on the Rune Factory spin-off games.Read full review
I have not played any other harvest moon games before and was not interested in the farming either.Then after I played this game the farming was fun and there is a dating sim elemnt to the game that makes it fun and for the first time you can also play as your kid in a second generation story.The RPG elements that are in the game such as the quests that give you money, items, and raise your friend ship and love. Also you level and fight monsters with swords,axes,hammers,wands,and magic.The monsters will also join you once you get the right item and they will help you on the farm.So it is a pretty good game.
